These parties are not the private citizen nor the stranger in the city, who steps in, looks at the Directory and goes out, but merchants, busi- ness and professional men, who need a Directory every day of the year, yet who are too close-fisted to buy one.

These same individuals are the ones that borrow your Directory " just for a minute," which, in the majority of cases, means a day or perhaps a week, unless you remember that they have it and send for it.

These same borrowers will tell the Directory canvasser that he has "no use for a Directory," that he "knows everybody," and vice versa, " everybody knows him."
