Modern Novelty All-Cast Warm Air Heater

Features of Special Merit

1. Large Area of Heating Surface. The area of the heating surface in this Heater is much greater than in most other cast radiator constructions. In many furnaces the area of heating surface is entirely inadequate for the proper heating of the required volume of air, resulting in a deficiency of heating power and causing a lack of durability in the construction.

2. Proper arrangement of Heating Surface. The Modern Novelty has the maximum amount of vertical and the minimum amount of horizontal heating surface, which promotes the rapid transmission of the heat to the volume of air passing through the heating chamber.

3. Correct arrangement of Draft Travel. The draft travel is sufficient to prevent an excessive temperature in the smoke exit, at the same time promoting a good bright combustion of the fuel. The top re- turn central draft flue is a feature of marked merit not found in any other furnace.

4. Absolutely and permanently Tight Joints. All joints are of the deep cup type, and are packed with a pure soft asbestos, a can of which is furnished with each Furnace. All surfaces are so perfectly machined that there is a true contact at all points. This insures a gas proof and air tight installation.

5. Strength and Durability. Reference to the table of weights, as printed elsewhere in this pamphlet, will show that the Modern Novelty is extremely heavy. The weight is properly distributed to promote durability. The construction is heavy, durable and solid.

6. The Double Fire-pot is so constructed as to promote durability and its deep cup joints are perfectly and permanently tight.

7. The Modern Novelty is so constructed as to require no clean-out door or opening as all of the interior surfaces, except the top return flue, are self cleaning. The top return flue may be easily and conveniently cleaned through the rear check draft door.

8. By a special device attached to the shaker shanks of the grates, the usual openings around said shanks are tightly closed when the ash pit door is closed.

Our special form of Triplex Bar Grate is the best and most practical grate ever applied to a furnace.

There is a housing at left side of the Feed Door Chute through which a coil may be mounted for furnishing domestic water supply.

The Feed Door is of large capacity and ample height.

The Ashpit Door is unusually high, making it convenient to remove ashes and preventing the banking up of the ashes against the grate.

A Chain and Pulley Attachment is furnished for regu- lating the draft from an upper room.

An effective Dust Flue is provided, which may also be used as a draft check.

Explanation of the Novelty System of Heating and Ventilating

1. With the Novelty System perfect heating and perfect ventilation are accomplished at no greater cost than that of the unsanitary, unsightly plan of heating without ventilation by the direct radiation steam or hot water method.

2. The Novelty System provides definite, clear, absolutely correct rules for determining the right capacity of Novelty Heater to use in any given building, the right size and location for every pipe, flue, register, ventilating shaft, ventilating duct and cold air duct, and plain directions for carrying out every other detail of the installation of a perfect heating and ventilating plant.

These rules, while easily understood and easily applied, conform strictly to the scientific facts of heating and ventilating, and no case of failure has ever been registered against a plant installed in accordance with them.

3. The Heating apparatus specified and installed in a given case under the Novelty System not only has sufficient capacity to easily fur- nish the heat required without forcing the heater in the slightest degree, but it is also absolutely gas tight and extremely durable.

The joints of the Novelty Heater are few and every joint is a packed asbestos gasket joint, impervious to gas or smoke or dust.

4. Under the complete Novelty System, pure, warm air is poured into each room in large volume and at a comparatively low temperature, while the older, colder and impurer air is removed at the bottom of the room, conveyed to a ventilating shaft and thrown out of the building. The air in the house is constantly being renewed and its purity is assured.

Under the Novelty System perfect cleanliness as well as perfect purity of the air is maintained.

(The Novelty System must not be confounded with the ordinary "furnace job," which is frequently deficient in capacity, grossly faulty in installation and therefore unsatisfactory in results.)

The Novelty Furnace Handbook is the text-book of the Novelty System and contains complete directions which enable architects and heating contractors to install the Novelty System correctly in any residence or other building.
