The music is a composition of Mr. Nicholas Brill, grandfather of our organist, Miss Rose Wirtz. This hymn was first sung by Joe Emerson over Radio Station WLW, Cincinnati.

I.

O come and praise the Baptist's name, Foretold through Gabriel's voice; Elizabeth's and Zachary's fame, The Godhead's happy choice. By God's own word asked to confess the Saviour's mission here;

The voice that pierced the wilderness Announced the Saviour dear.

Chorus:

O happy John! just man of God! Our Patron always be, To make us brave to love our God Now and eternally. II.

O come and praise the Baptist's name Forerunner of the Lord; With camel skin and locusts wild Cut luxury's silken cord.

From out the wilderness he came With penance taught to save;

He stood in Jordan's cleansing wave His Saviour's brow he laved.

Chorus :-

III.

O come and praise the Baptist's name A man of courage bold,

Who walked unto the kingly dais and unafraid to scold.

With zeal for God and Christian laws, He raised his voice to chide;

He braved king's wrath, he braved sure death,

But died a friend of God.

Chorus :-
