The main branch of Sugar Creek runs through the northern half of the township. Several other small streams run across it and empty into Sugar Creek.
The principal town is Mechanicsburg, located in the northeast corner of the township.
The I., C. & L. R. R. runs across the southwestern corner, but Thorntown, in Sugar Creek township, is the principal rail- road station for the people of Washington township.
The public roads, bridges and school-houses are of a substan- tial character.
The vote of the township is about 425, a majority being Re- publicans.
There are ten school-houses, valued at $3500. B. F. Limpus is the present Township Trustee.

BOONE COUNTY.
CLINTON TOWNSHIP.
CLINTON TOWNSHIP borders on the north line of the county, and is the second township from the east line. It contains 33 square miles. The soil is good, timber heavy and plentiful.
The township is drained by small branches of Sugar Creek, which run from southeast to northwest, emptying into the main stream near the northwest corner of the township. The main branch of Sugar Creek runs across and cuts off a small portion of the township on its northwest corner.
The timber is of the very best, and is largely manufactured into staves, lumber, etc., for eastern markets. The personal improvements are very good, considering the newness of the country and advantages of transportation. At present there are no railroads through the township.
Elizaville, a small village in the southern part of the town- ship, is a lively little trading post. .
The people of this township are kind and generous, seeming to have a desire for progress in morals, intelligence and finances.
The township has nine school-houses, two brick and seven frame, valued at about $5000.
