PAST POST COMMANDERS.
Frank D. Parker, J. E. Benedict, Lorenzo. Taylor .A. B. Jeffrey. The present commander is Frank D. Parker with John P. Jadwin adjutant. The Orland ladies are workers but as yet have not organized a W. R. C.
PERSONAL MENTIONS OF A FEW ACTIVE MEMBERS.
A. B. JEFFREY comes recommended by an Ohio regiment of cavalry, and has marks of being exposed to the Johnnies' bullets. Abe. is a number one citizen, and believes the dollar that bought the food, paid the soldier, saved the Union, and good enough for the soldier, who gave time, blood, and. life, is equally good for the bond-holder, whose contract was made after the soldier was in the field.
ALEXANDER RHUEL carries proofs of exposure to rebel fire while a member of the 100th Ind. He is quick to resent insults or slurs to self, comrade, or flag; and if friend or comrade are in need he is a friend indeed.
GEORGE PREIST, an unfortunate needy soldier, done a soldiers duty with many a Steuben county boy in Co. B 4th Mich. In the Seven Days fight in Virginia he contracted a disability that caused his discharge, but by technical- ity is denied a rightful pension, although aided and interceded for by neighbors and friends. Will these technical points ever bo set aside?
SAMUEL SPREQUE is one of the trusted offiieers of the post and has been so estimated by the people in public official trusts. He takes interest in good society and public good on all occasions.
JEROME MORSE is an interested workor in his G. A. R. Post and the cause of soldiers justice, who the is not afraid to demand for himself or comrades.

LEAMAN GRIFFITH POST, G. A. R. NO. 387 AND W. R. C. NO. 111. LOCATED AT HAMILTON, INDIANA.
This post was chartered Dec. 13th, 1884, with I charter members under the name of Baron Steuben a name proposed by T. A. Buecher Esq. an intense loyal citizen of Hamilton, as suitable in commemoration of the old revolu- tionary hero and after whom the county was named. But in the begining of 1889 the members thought it more appropriate to select a name of a Steuben County soldier, who gave a life in the late rebellion, which caused the origin of the Q. A. R., and at the last state encampment the name was changed from Baron Steuben to Leaman Griffith Post. Thus every post in the county is named after a Steuben county soldier with the exception of the one at Fremont.
LEAMAN GrarFirn was born in Tuscarawas County, Ohio, came with his parents to Steuben County, enlisted in company Hl 71th Indiana and was one of its best soldiers never complaining but partaking of camp life with zeal and fidelity. He was taken prisoner at Chicamanga, but being so severely wounded the rebels paroled him. He was sent home on a turlough, he retus- ing to accept a discharge. After due time he returned to this regiment, although disabled badly. Ile with determined grit participated with his regiment in Sherman's March to the Sea, through Richmond, and the Grand Review at Washington. He died at home in the spring of 1866 from the result of his wounds. He was generous und governed by strict ideas of honor. justice, and duty. Whoever made his acquaintance found a friend.

Lewis Griffith
George Il. Cosper
The present commander is B. P. Griffith with Lewis Griffith adjutant.
The post has looked well to the future, and in this far better than any other post in the county, being owners of valuable real estate including a fine new business building located on one of the principal business corners of the town, which gives them a commodious well furnished halt for the sessions of post and corps. The rental of their business rooms below nearly makes the past self sustaining. The old veterans learned well in war time the necessity of reserves and supports, and this post has been ably seconded by W. R. C. No. 111 consisting of a small band of noble women.
W. R. C. No. 111 was chartered with 14 members April 20, 1888. Mrs. Louisa Renner was elected president and Miss Minnie Beecher secretary for 1888, and were reelected for 1889.

It is estimated about forty such cases occur, which would reduce the true Grand Army enrollment to 485 veterans, with a loss of about 130 members droped, discharged, and died. VETERAN CAMPS
1880
VITA DEI SERVA
1
STEUBEN
COUNTY,
YORUM
VETERA
FILIS
INDIANA.
Over one hundred young mon in steuben county have now enlisted, and more will as S. of V. nearly all of whom have been born since the great con- diet, who in appearence strikingly represent the age and form of fathers when taking the field twenty five or more years ago with no personal experience of war or camp except as they may view the effects in the premature infirmities and often in loss by death of a fathers care and counsels. But the result of the great contest has made them realize that they were indeed proud and noble Sons of noble Sires, who fought for the preservation of the union. Patterned after the G. A. R. they will minister to the wants of the disabled veteran, and will follow in the footsteps of their fathers on tach 30th of May to deposit emblems in honor of the veteran mustern to the other shore.
