G. W. Kingsbury, it was voted that when the division was made the southern part should be called (as they then wrote the word) La Bet county. J. S. Waters was recognized as the chairman of the delegation from the south- ern half of the county.
Following we give a summary of various political conventions which have been held in Labette county, from 1866 to 1900, inclusive:
In October, 1866, a Republican convention was called for the proposed new county of "La Bet" (alluded to above). It met in the open air near Carr & Bridgman's store, Os- wego; J. F.
