PREFACE.
In issuing this directory of the clubs and club men of Boston, we have presented a book which will, we believe, prove a valuable volume to its patrons. It contains a list of nearly twenty thousand names and addresses, and includes, so far as our knowledge extends, all the clubs of any social or political prominence in this city. Our sincere thanks are hereby ten- dered to the officers of the clubs, who have so kindly aided us in furnishing and correcting the lists of members ; and while some errors in names or addresses have doubtless occurred, we have used our utmost endeavors to have them absolutely correct. We would ask that all errors which are noticed will be promptly reported to us, that they may be corrected in subsequent editions.
As regards our advertisers, we would call attention to the fact that we have presented none but those of undoubted reputation, and who are well deserving of the patronage they enjoy.
Thanking our patrons who have so generously subscribed for the work, we remain, very respectfully,
THE PUBLISHERS.

Champagne ANALYZED
Champagne, with a minimum of alcohol, is by far the wholesomest, and possesses remarkable exhilarating power. THOMAS KING CHAMBERS, M.D., F. R. C. P. Honorary Physician to H. R. H. the Prince of Wales.
Having occasion to investigate the question of wholesome beverages, I have made chemica analysis of the most prominent brands of Champagne.
I find G. H. Mumm & Co.'s Extra Dry to contain in a marked degree less alcohol than the others. 1 therefore most cordially commend it, not only for its purity, but as the most wholesome of the Champagnes. R. OGDEN DOREMUS. M.D., LL. D.
Prof. Chemistry, Bellevue Hospital Med. Col., N. Y.
The Only Wine to be Used in Diabetes Mellitus.
From abstract of the course of practice of medicine by Professor Alfred L. Loomis, at the medical department of the University of the City of New York, reported in the " Amphi- theatre," organ of the medical colleges of America. "Treatment of Diabetes." "No wine whatsoever, except Mumm's Extra Dry Champagne."
Messrs. G. H. Mumm & Co. use only the choicest grapes of the best districts, and the cream of the Pressing for their Champagnes.
J.CALVET& C. BORDEAUX.
The superiority of "J. CALVET & Co." Clarets is well known, and vouched for by the great reputation of this house as shippers of carefully selected wines. They were the purchasers of the entire crops of some of the well-known growths of the year 1880, such as Châteaux "Duhart Milon," "Desmirail," " Langoa," "Lagrange," "Léoville Lascazes," and have always made a specialty of fine Châteaux Wines.
