The humble Petition of severall of ve Inhabitants of Sudbury whose names are heere und' written


Humbly Showeth


That whereas vor Petitions have lived divers yeares in Sud- bury & God hath beene pleased to increase of Children well are now divers of them growne to mans Estate, & wee many of us, growne into yeares: so as st wee should bee glad to see them setled before ye Lord take us away from hence, as also God haveing given ns some considerable quantity of Cattle; so et wee are so streightnel y' we cannott so Com- fortably subsist. as could be desired : & some of us Inveing taken some paines to veiw the Country : wee have fonud A place wch lyeth Westw4 about eight miles from Sudbury, wch wee conceive might bee comfortable for of Subsistance : It is therefore the humble request of yor Petition's to this honored Court: If you would bee pleased to Graunt unto us- eight miles Square ; or so much Land as may containe to eight miles Square for to make A Plantation :


If it shall please this honord Court to graunt or Petition, It is farth" then the request of vor Petition's to this hono'd Court that you will bee pleased to appoint m' Thomas Danforth or Lieften' fisher to lay out the bounds of ye Plantation and wee shall sattisfy those whome this honor Court shall please to employ in it: So apprehending yor weighty occasion[u] wee shall not farther trouble this hono'd Court but sha[l] ever pray for yor Happinesse

We the Comitie of the Honoured Gen" Court in Obedienc to theire Order: bearing Date May 28: 1679: Haveing Given opportunity to ffall hearing : of the Greiuances that have been the Matters of Debate and Contention in abone Named place (vpon Serions and Matture Deliberation, Do determin and Order as follows :- With refferene to the Complaint of Edward Rice, for want of his Inst Interest in Asabah Meadow, we find the Sº Rice Justly blameable for his turbulant Opposing the Orders made by the former Comitee, yet for as much as the S' Issue was Grounded

vpon Sum Misinformation giuen them : as to vs doe no[t] Clearly appear, And that Samuel Ward and Abraham How : are possessed of two percels of s" meadow : belonging to S' Rice, and others by a fformer Grant of ye Toun ffor a ffinail End of sd Contronersie, with the Consent of parties therein Concerned We doc Order that the abouesd Meadow shall be Denided as follows, That is to Abraham How fiue Acres at the lowermost end thereof, And the Remainder to be Deuided between, the Reverend ME Brinsmead, the aboue Named Edward Rice and Samuel Rice in a Just pro- portion to theire Seuerall intrest (That is ME Brinsmend 9 Edward Rice 93. Samuel Rice 3.3: And that Recompene be made to aboue sd Abraham How. The Comte appointed by ge Gen" Court to Lay out A Plantation for 1" Indians of sive thousand Acres at the above named place. haveing giving m' Eliot A meeting, & duely weigned all his exceptions in ye behalfe of the Indians first what hath been formerly acted. & returned to ye Gen" Court doe Judge meete in way of Complyance that the Bounds of the Indian Plantation bee enlarged unto ye most westerly part of the fence yt now standeth on the west side of the Hill or planting field called oenoocangansett, & from thenee to bee extended on A direet north Line untill they Comtters resolve touching the English & lu- have theire full quantity of sixe thousand Acres, the Bounds of theire Plantation in all other respects wee Judge meete dian Plantacon :. that they stand as in of former returne. & that theire ffull Complem of Meadow by Court gannat may stand, & bee exactly measured out by an Artist within the Limits of the aforest lines, when ye Indians, or any in theire behalfo are willing to bee at the charges thereot : provided alwaies

Lands, otherwise than by ye Consent of the honord Gen" Court: or when any shalbe made or happen, the Plantation of English there scated may have the first tender of it from ye Court; wch Caution wee ye rath" insert, because not only A considerable pt of ye nearest & best planting Land is hereby taken away from the English (as wee are informed) but the nearest & best pt of theire meadow by estimation about an hundred Acres in one place that this north Line doth take away, wel tendet! much to the detrimenting of the English Plantation es- pecially if ye Lands should be impropriated to any othr use than the Indians proposed that is to say for an Indian Plan- tation or for the Accomodating their Plantation they should bee deprived thereof
