ESSEX COUNTY DIRECTORY. .
PREFACE.
The first edition of the ESSEX COUNTY DIRECTORY is herewith presented to the public for their approval and patronage. It is the first work of the kind ever published, and the proprietors feel that it has been long needed, and that their efforts to satisfy the demand will not be unap- preciated.
The entire County has been systematically and thoroughly canvassed by competent and careful agents who have had long experience in the business, and every improvement that experience could suggest has been adopted in order to pro- duce an accurate and reliable book. We are satisfied that no similar book ever published in this country can produce so many claims to favor as this. In typographical appear- ance every one can see its marked excellence, and in the arrangement of the information, and in the copious refer- ences, all who use it can test its value.
The advertising pages contain the business cards of some of the most flourishing business firms in the County, and a consultation of those pages will be found of interest to all.
To our patrons who have encouraged us by their subscrip- tions and advertisements we return our sincere thanks, and to the public generally our acknowledgments are due for courtesy and favors to our agents.
