PREFACE.

IN presenting this, our first number of the DIRECTORY OF HAVERHILL AND BRADFORD, we deem it unnecessary to give a lengthy preface, and will only say, much care and labor has been bestowed upon it. No pais or expense have been spared to make this little book both instructive and useful.

One difficulty that has been experienced in the preparation of the present Directory it is hoped will be remedied, as it easily can be, before the issue of another Directory ; and that is, the numbering of the houses, which in hardly one street is complete, rendering it very hard to give the exact location.

Upon examination you will find there has been quite an increase in names, both in the general and in the business directory, showing that our villages are fast growing, and in a flourishing condition,
