94 PREFACE.

IN presenting this book to the public, the publishers desire to state that no Directory containing in one book all the towns comprised herein has ever been published, there being a distinct Citizens' Direc- tory, with the residence and occupation of the inhabitants, together with a Business Directory , of six different towns, also a County Reg- ister of Worcester and Franklin Counties.

This work, considering the fact that all of the material therefor was compiled from manuscript, has been issued at as early a date as accuracy would permit ; and a careful inspection of it, and an esti- mate made of the amount of time and labor to complete it, must sat- isfy our patrons that we have labored faithfully to present a work satisfactory to the citizens of the whole district, and one in which all can take pride.

Of course there have been changes, both in the residences of some of the inabitants and business firms, since the canvassing was commenced ; these are unavoidable, but we have spared no pains or expense to have it correct in every detail.

We are indebted to many friends in the various towns for kind advice and assistance, and to our numerous patrons for our generous support ; to all of whom we return our sincere thanks.
