THE

"AMHERST MOTOR."

POWER GIVEN, FROM 1-16 10 5 HORSE POWER.

.. THE uses to which the "AMHERST MOTOR" can be applied wherever there is aqueduct pressure, are very nu- merous, such as elevators, electric lights, sewing, knit- ting, washing, meat-cutting, horse-clipping, and all kinds of laundry machines, printing presses, dental engines, jig saws, lathes, coffee and drug mills, telephone genera- tors, grindstones, fan-blowers, ventilating fans, ice cream freezers, house and church organs, &c. &c.

. This Motor is a marvel of ingenuity, its operation being perfect, and is perhaps the best illustration had of lato years of the perfect application of theory to practice. The principle upon which its construction is based elicits the approval and admiration of experts in mechanics, it being entirely new and novei, as any one familiar with machin- ery and the laws of motion and hydraulics can see by a glance at the cut. It consists in the arrangement of a se- ries of pistons within a cylinder disk, and radiating from the centre thereof, wherein, through suitable valve con- uections for admitting and discharging water, the pistons are caused to have successive reciprocating motions, which motions are so communicated to a ring which rests upon the ends of the pistons, and co-operatively acts with the latter, as to cause the periphery of the ring to present a continuous succession of curved Inclines under a roller arm, which is attached to a fly-wheel and pulley located by the side of the disk, whereby said fly-wheel. and pul- ley is given a continuous rotary motion in the piane of the movement of said pistons.

The advantages of this Motor are obvious at a glance :

IT IS A PISTON MOTOR,

Furnished with the best kind of hydraulic packings, which are durable, pro- duce very little friction, and suffer no water to escape.

IT IS FAR MORE ECONOMICAL

Than any jet motor, or turbine wheel, inasmuch as it utilizes

Every drop of water that passes through it !

It has no DEAD CENTRES, from the fact that one-half of the pistons are acting constantly. This renders the action perfectly uniform and steady, without jar or noise, a most important advantage over any other hydraulic motor.

From the fact that the pistons are short, it can be run at a high rate of speed, and it can be made reversible .. It yields a larger per cent. of power for the water used than any other motor.

For estimates, circulars and information, address
