INTRODUCTORY.
The Directory of 1895, the 28th of the series is before the public of New Bedford and Fairhaven, presenting as in the past (only as the publishers believe even more fully and satisfac- torily), the names of the residents, the business interests and features of governmental, commercial and social importance as far as the limits included by such works allow. We think the publie appreciate our efforts to give them a directory creditable to the enterprising city of whaling renown and commercial and manufacturig importance, and its fair suburb. Visitors judge much of the character and standing of a city by its directory, and the business public find it to their advantage to use its pages freely.
Advertising in a book consulted so constantly as a directory, cannot help bringing profitable results. Many changes of con- sequence have occurred within a year, rendering an old direc- tory as antiquated and useless as a worn out garment. Enter- prising people keep abreast of the times, and that is our motto. Liberal patronage will enable us to render still better service to our constituents.
The substantial growth of New Bedford and Fairhaven, evi- dencing prosperity even in a season of dulness, is indicated by the following :-

Appreciating the favors extended by both advertisers and the general public, we shall greet you a year hence with a volume as much more compleie as the increase in business, population and local interests generally will call for.
Respectfully, W. A. GREENOUGH & CO.,
