A. MODEL HOUSE.
Buy your goods of reliable merchants who have been tried. The house with no reputation will resort to tricks of trade to secure custom, and will make the most out of you at the time, and then look out for fresh victims. In Troy pre-eminently the house that has built up and sustained an increasing business from year to year, for more than half a century, is that of
G. V. S. QUACKENBUSH & CO., Dry Goods and Carpets, COR. BROADWAY AND THIRD ST., TROY, N. Y.
This magnificant store, by far the largest in the line in the city, with its IM- MENSE STOCK OF DESIRABLE GOODS, stands to-day a monument of their enter- prise. Occuping a corner and extending the entire length from street to alley, with its four stories and basement, it affords the best facilities of light for the dis- play of goods and of comfort in examining them. On the main floor are depart- ments for
Silks, Laces, Velvets and Plushes, Dress Goods, Mourning Goods, Ribbons, Gloves, Hosiery, White Goods, Ladies' Underwear, Cloths, Cloakings, Boys' Cloth- ing, Flannels, Linens, Cottons, Blankets, Prints and Notions.
Up Stairs are the Carpet Rooms, the Curtain and Uphol- stery Rooms, the Cloak Parlors, and the But- terick Pattern Department.
All of these are fully stocked with the latest and best styles. Quackenbush's motto-"The Best is the Cheapest," has proved itself true a thousand times. Those who buy their goods are sure of the best of the kind, and their large busi- ness enables them to sell the best qualities as low as smaller stores can afford in- ferior goods.
As above stated, the business of this house has been constantly increasing. The founder, G. V. S. QUACKENBUSH, after more than forty years devotion to its ad- vancement, died in 1872, and was succeeded by his son-in-law, S. H. LASELL, and his partner, W. H. SHERMAN, both of whom have been connected with the business for more than thirty years. The heads of many departments have also been long in their employ ; and the business has been extended, and new features introduced, until to-day their facilities for offering the best selections at lowest prices are unexcelled. Visitors to Troy are cordially invited to call and look through the store, whether wishing to buy or not. Orders by mail receive careful attention.

BROOKLYN STEAM CARPET CLEANING AND FEATHER RENOVATING ESTABLISHMENT. JOHN N. CHASE, Proprietor. No. 1 Brooklyn St., North Adams.
With many thanks for the liberal patronage extended to me last season, I would respectfully announce that I have increased my facilities for
CARPET CLEANING
And in addition to the dry process of cleaning I can now Cleanse Carpets, Rugs, Blankets, etc., thoroughly by STEAMING or WASHING. I make a specialty of WASHING RAG CARPETS. Please remember, that Carpets cleaned by my pro- cess are rid of moths, and are made perfectly clean and renderd soft and bright. Also, that no injury is done to the carpet, but on the contrary it is made better. Also, that by whipping a carpet it cannot be perfectly cleaned, and it cannot be whipped without injury. Carpets called for cleaned and re-laid at very reasonable prices. Orders by postal card will receive prompt attention.
After numerous requests I have fitted up a part of my building for RENOVATING FEATHER BEDS.
Feathers are renovated by steam at high pressure, and I can guarantee perfect satisfaction. Numerous references given.
