BLACKINTON.


A thrifty and picturesque village on the Troy and Bos- ton Railroad two miles from North Adams. It derives its name from Sanford Blackinton, the president of S. Blackinton Woolen Co., which gives employment to about 350 operatives and manufactures about 60,000 yards of fancy cassimeres per month. The present officers of the company are : President S. Blackinton, Treasurer O. A. Archer, Agent L. Pomeroy. The village contains a post- office, a telegraph and express office, two general stores and one carriage shop. The most commendable efforts have been made by its leading citizens to promote intel- lectual and moral culture, as will be seen from the follow- ing list of organizations which are in a flourishing condition :
