PREFACE.
THE second number of the MERRIMACK RIVER DI- RECTORY is herewith presented to our patrons and the public. The favor with which the first number was re- ceived in 1869 has induced us to publish this, believing, as we do, that a work embracing the directories of so many large manufacturing cities, located on one of the busiest water-powers in New England, would be appreci- ated and supported by the great manufacturing interests of the country. In this we have not been disappointed, as a glance at our pages will show.
We especially call the attention of the public to our advertising department, as there will be found a good representation of the large amount of business transacted upon the shores of the Merrimack river.
Our thanks are due to all who have aided us, and par- ticularly to the Cotton and Woolen Manufacturing com- panies and Banking institutions, who have so generously responded to our call for support and encouragement.
