Your Trustees wish to thank the Librarian and Staff of the Haver- hill Public Library for the many favors and the kindly co-operation that has been extended to us during the past year.
Miss Susanna I. Sayre who has been connected with the Library for many years, resigned as of Oct. 1, 1948. It is difficult to record just how many years Miss Sayre has been with the Library. The earlier records show that she was appointed an assistant librarian in May, 1898, and served continuously until March 1911, when she was appointed Librarian, and has given faithful and efficient service since that time.
The position of Librarian has been filled by Miss Agnes Judkins, who is a graduate of Tufts College and of the School of Library Science of Simmons College, and who was for many years Children's Librarian at Brooklyn, New York.
Your Trustees recommend that the sum of $1,500.00 be ap- propriated for the year 1949.
Respectfully submitted,
GRACE F. GIBBS, BARBARA N. ADAMS; . ABBIE W. SARGENT, ALVIN F. HEATH, CHESTER E. WHITING, ISAIAH CHASE,

REPORT OF THE MERRIMAC BOARD OF PUBLIC WELFARE
To the Citizens of the Town of Merrimac:
The members elected to the Board of Public Welfare organized as follows:
Hazen M. Emery Chairman
Ellen M. Wallace Clerk
Harriett F. Bigelow . Other Member
With the number of cases on relief rolls and with the increase in unemployment and high cost of living this Board was unable to stay within its appropriation of $5,000.00. As this situation seems to remain about the same we have recommended that our ap- propriation be increased to $6,000.00.
The same holds good in our Aid to Dependent Children Depart- ment and with an increase in our case load we were compelled to ask for an appropriation of $6,000.00.
