A total of 283 children registered at the playground to enjoy themselves in all kinds of games and supervised activities. The daily average of attendance ranged from 95 to 104 children per day. All kinds of games of sports and skills were enjoyed by the children during clement weather days, starting at 9:00 a. m. and continuing until 3:00 p. m. Mondays thru Fridays.

On Friday, August 19, 1960 the supervised play came to a close.

The old school house located in the Port was torn down and work was begun to level off the grounds and a park site was in the making. Quite a bit of work was accomplished during the year and it is expected to be" completed by the summer of 1961.

Because of the ever growing number of boys now wishing to play Little League baseball it was considered a must to construct another Little League ball diamond. This was voted upon and work began immediately, the field will be next to our present Little League field, and will be ready for the coming season. By electing to carry this project through it will enable us to have more teams, at least double of what we presently have, and it is our objective to keep official Little League right here in town.

Respectfully submitted, MERRILL B. SMITH

TOWN OF MERRIMAC

REPORT OF CEMETERY TRUSTEES

To the Honorable Board of Selectmen and the Citizens of Merrimac:

1960 was a year of much progress in the cemeteries of Merrimac.

Several new mowing machines were purchased, ap- proximately ten tons of lime was spread on the grass at the Locust Grove Cemetery, the new area at the left of the entrance was seeded and is now ready for expansion purposes.

The buildings were painted at both cemeteries and new windows put in them.

The wooden top of the stone wall fence was painted at the Church Street Cemetery.

The area in the lower end of Locust Grove was filled with fill from the River Road project. This makes more land and cleans up the swamp that has been there for years.

In 1961 this land will be graded and seeded. This area, we felt had to be renovated to make way for the new entrance which will have to be in effect under the state road program.
