ANNUAL REPORT OF THE SELECTMEN.

TO THE CITIZENS OF THE TOWN OF MILFORD, MASS. :

We hereby submit our report for the fiscal year ending December 31, 1922, with an itemized account of the expendi- tures of the various departments under our supervision.

HIGHWAYS.

The report of the highway surveyor who has exclusive control of the ordinary repairs of highways, town ways, streets, sidewalks and bridges, will be found under a separate heading.

We recommend that a reasonable amount of money be ap- propriated for highways, so th it they may be kept in proper condition.

We are endeavoring to obtain an allotment of money from the commonwealth and county for the rebuilding of Cedar street, and have arranged for a conference with the Depart- ment of Public Works, Division of Highways, and with the County Commissioners, to discuss this matter.

STREET LIGHTS.

In compliance with the vote passed at the last annual town meeting, the selectmen have renewed the contract for street lighting for a term of oue year with the Milford Elec- tric Light & Power Company.

The price per light is the same as under the previous con- tract.

CARE OF TREES.

We recommend that a reasonable sum be appropriated for the care of shade trees, and the planting of young trees.

DISTRIBUTION OF FUEL.

Acting upon the request of the Massachusetts Emergency Fuel Committee Mr. Owen F. Croughwell was appointed Local Emergency Fuel Distributor by the Selectmen.

He has given a great amount of time and energy to the handling of this difficult problem, working in harmony with
