Cemetery Commissioners' Report

The Cemetery Commissioners hereby submit their report for 1938. The year has been an unusually busy one, the total receipts being the largest on record - $3,054.25.

Lots have been laid out in the recent addition to Oak Knoll Cemetery to the number of 447, with a total sales value of $20,000.00 and several have been sold.

Early in the spring an unusual opportunity to re- place the old fence on the Converse Street side of Oak Knoll Cemetery presented itself and an iron fence was purchased at a cost of $375.00, about 9 per cent of the original cost of the fence. With the fence in excess of the amount needed for Converse Street, and some hun- dreds of feet of cyclone fence obtained without cost, we were enabled to fence Rathbone Street for its entire length.

The damage wrought by the hurricane in all the cemeteries was repaired at a minimum cost, due largely to the personal interest and splendid co-operation of the men engaged in the work. The usable timber was sawed into lumber, to the value of about $250.00 and the refuse given to families in need.

$1300.00 has been added to our Perpetual Care Fund, which now amounts to nearly $35,000.00

Two anticipated entrances at Four Corners Ceme- tery will greatly improve conditions there.

21

Promised instalation of a drainage system at Oak Knoll cemetery has not been forthcoming and this lack still continues to be one of our greatest needs as well as a source of needless expense.

A census of all the burials in Oak Knoll cemetery for the past two hundred years has been taken. A similar listing of the burials in Four Corners is desir- able; any information relative to unmarked lots or graves will be much appreciated.
