WARRANT FOR TOWN MEETING.


Norfolk, ss. To either of the Constables of the Town of Brain- tree, Greeting :- -


In the name of the Commonwealth of Massachusetts, you are hereby required to notify and warn the inhabitants of the Town of Braintree, qualified to vote in town affairs, to meet at the Town Hall in said Braintree, on Friday, the seventeenth day of January, 1902, at seven forty-five o'clock in the evening, to act on the following articles, namely :


Article 1. To choose a Moderator to preside at said meet- ing.


Art. 2. To see what action the town will take relative to a hearing to be held at the Town Hall on a petition for the widen- ing of Washington and Hancock streets by the County Com- missioners.


Art. 3. To choose any committee the town may deem nec- essary.


You are to give notice of this meeting by posting up true and attested copies of this warrant in not less than nine public · places in this town, seven days at least before time of this meet- ing, and by publishing the same once in the Braintree Observer.


Hereof fail not and make return of this warrant with your doings thereon, to the Town Clerk before the time of said meeting.

BRAINTREE, January 17, 1902.


In accordance with the foregoing warrant the town met at the time and place mentioned. The Town Clerk called the meeting to order and read the warrant.


Article 1. Upon ballot with the use of the check list, Mr. Elmer E. Abercrombie was elected Moderator and was sworn by the Town Clerk.


Art. 2. Voted that the Moderator of this meeting as chair- man of a committee appointed by the petitioners, exhibit a plan prepared by said committee and explain the same to the citizens here assembled.


A motion was offered, that the Selectmen be instructed to appear before the County Commissioners at the hearing on pro- posed widening of Hancock and Washington streets, as repre- sentatives 'of the town, in favor of said petition in accordance with the plan prepared by Mr. Charles H. Bailey, and that the Selectmen be authorized to pay the necessary expenses connected with said hearing, not to exceed the sum of twelve dollars.


The meeting voted to substitute the following motion for the foregoing and adopted the same; that this meeting take no further action other than to refer the matter to the County Com- missioners.


Voted that the Selectmen as representatives of the town,

appear before the County Commissioners and advocate the widening of the street.


Voted that the Selectmen be authorized to pay any expenses incurred by this hearing, not exceeding twelve dollars.


Art. 3. Voted that a committee of three be chosen from the floor to appear before the Railroad Commissioners and see what can be done about lower fares between Braintree and Boston on the New York, New Haven and Hartford railroad, and also to look into the matter of fares and the sale of tickets by the Old Colony Street Railway Company to the school children of Braintree. The committee chosen were, Elmer E. Abercrombie, F. A. Hobart and John W. West.

Art. 2. To see if the town, for its annual town election, will establish precinct voting for all town officers to be chosen thereat and for voting on the question of granting licenses for the sale of intoxicating liquors by accepting the provisions of Section 353 of Chapter II of the Revised Laws of Massachu- setts, or by such other action as may be appropriate and necessary.
