Preface
"The selectman, before the annual town meeting, shall at the expense of the town print the annual town re- port, for the use of the inhabitants, containing the report of the selectmen for the financial year preceding said meeting, the report of the school committee, and, except as otherwise provided by vote or by-law of the Town, of such other officers and boards as considered expedient to make a report, the jury list as required by chapter two hundred thirty-four, and such other matters as the law, or the town by vote or by-law, requires, or as the selectmen consider expedient. If the selectmen neglect or refuse to make the annual town report, they shall severally forfeit fifty dollars" General Laws : Chapter 40, Section 49.
"The head of each Town department and every com- mittee or board appointed or elected shall on or before the 15th of January report in writing to the Selectmen on their doings during the preceding calendar year and their recommendations for action by the Town. These reports shall be in such form as the Selectmen shall prescribe.
Sect. 2. The Selectmen shall cause to be printed and distributed before the annual Town Meeting the reports of the various Town officers, boards and committees, and shall cause copies of said report to be distributed to each registered voter of the Town who shall apply therefor at at the office of the Selectmen."

March 4, 1948
Petitions having been received by the Town Clerk for a Recount of the votes cast at the Annual Town Election held March 1, 1948, on the Question on the ballot relative to 48-Hour week for Fire Department, were filed in due time and found to be in proper order with the necessary number of signatures of registered voters in each precinct checked by the Board of Registrars.
The date, time and place for the recount was set by the Board of Registrars as for Tuesday, March 9, 1948, at 9:00 A.M. at the Town Hall.

In accordance with the foregoing mentioned Petitions, the recount was held at 9:00 A.M. at the Town Hall by the Board of Registrars in accordance with the provisions of Chapter 54, Section 135 General Laws.

Annual Town Meeting
'ARTICLE 1. To choose all Town Officers except those elected by ballot.
Voted: To elect three Measurers of Lumber. John C. Pafford, Shelley A. Neal and Daniel A. Maloney.
Voted: To elect three Measurers of Wood and Weighers of Hay: George A. Williams, Matthew McCusker and Willard P. Sheppard.
ARTICLE 2. To hear and act upon the reports of the several boards of Town Officers and committees, and choose any committee the Town may think proper.
Voted: That Article 2 be taken up in conjunction with all other articles.
ARTICLE 3. To see if the Town will vote to authorize the Town Treasurer, with the approval of the Selectmen to borrow money from time to time in anticipation of the revenue of the financial year be- ginning January 1, 1948, and to issue a note or notes therefor payable within one year, and to renew any note or notes therefor payable within one year, and to renew any note or notes as may be given for a period of less than one year in accordance with the provisions of Section 17, . Chapter 44, General Laws .- So voted.
ARTICLE 4. To see if the Town will vote to authorize the Town Treasurer, with the approval of the Selectmen, to borrow money from time to time in anticipation of the revenue of the financial year begin- ning January 1, 1949, and to issue a note or notes therefor payable within one year, and to renew any note or notes as may be given for a period of less than one year in accordance with the provisions of Section 17, Chapter 44, General Laws .- So voted.
ARTICLE 5. To see if the Town will vote to authorize the Treas- urer, with the approval of the Selectmen, to borrow money for general municipal purposes under the authority of and in accordance with the provisions of Chapter 49 of the Acts of 1933 as amended, or take any action relative thereto .- So voted.
ARTICLE 6. To see what action the Town will take to establish the salaries of the elective Town Officers.
Voted: That Article 6 be taken up in conjunction with Article 7.
ARTICLE 7. To see what sums the Town will raise and appro- priate or transfer from available funds to pay interest and maturing debt, and for charges, expenses and outlays of the several Town De- partments for the ensuing year and to appropriate the same. (For amounts appropriated, see Town 'Accountant's Report, Recapitulation.)
ARTICLE 8. To see if the Town will vote to accept the provisions of Chapter 615 of the Acts of 1947, authorizing increases of the amounts of pensions payable to certain former public employees who have been retired and to beneficiaries of certain public employees.

Voted: That the provisions of Chapter 615 of the Acts of 1947 be accepted, effective as of January 1. 1948.
ARTICLE 9. To determine if any or all public offices in the Town may remain closed on any or all Saturdays, or take any action relative thereto.

Voted : That the offices in the Town Hall may be closed on Satur- days during June, July, August and September through Labor Day.
ARTICLE 10. To see what sums of money the Town will vote to raise and appropriate or transfer from available funds for the Brain- tree Post No. 1702, Veterans of Foreign Wars of the United States, for rent of a hall to conduct meetings and other functions of the Post, or take any other action relative thereto .- No action necessary.
ARTICLE 11. To see if the Town will vote to raise and appro- priate or transfer from available funds the sum of $600.00 to assist the following organizations in defraying the expenses of Memorial Day in the amounts set against their names, namely, $250 for Braintree Post No. 86, American Legion; $250.00 for Braintree Post No. 1702, Veterans of Foreign Wars and $100.00 for Antietam Camp No. 3, Sons of Union Veterans of Civil War, or take any other action relative thereto .- No action necessary.
