In 1900 the County Commissioners issued a decree to straighten Wareham street, necessitating the building of one and one-half miles of new road, beginning near the residence of John Carver and terminating near the residence of Mr. Wilbur. Three-fourths of a mile of the same was built in 1901, except gravelling or grading suitable for crushed stone. The past year the balance has nearly been completed suit- able for macadamizing. In 1902 the State Commission was petitioned to grant an extension of the State Highway, and recognized the request by meeting the town half way in cost of building the above balance of three-fourths of a mile, and also an extension of one and one-half miles of macadamizing to be added to State road, including three-fourths of a mile of the new road. Cost, as estimated by State Commission, $5,280 00.
