Everett B. Wood, after 39 years of service in the fire de- partment of the town was retired as chief on December 31, 1958.


A fearless leader in fire battle, a man of courage and right decision, Chief Wood holds the high esteem not only of those townspeople whom he served but by many top ranking fire officials throughout the county and state.


Everett B. Wood came to the Plymouth fire department as a private on March 3, 1920. He was appointed to a cap- taincy in the department on March 22, 1929. With the retire- ment of former fire chief Albert Hiller, Captain Wood was ap- pointed chief of the department to fill the vacancy on July 1, 1939.

The Meeting was called to order by the Moderator, Amedeo V. Sgarzi, at 2:00 o'clock, p.m.


Number of Town Meeting Members present March 22nd, as reported by records of Joseph Correa and Carleton Ken- drick, checkers, was 176.


Number of Town Meeting Members present March 24th, as reported by records of Joseph Correa, checker, was 178.


Number of Town Meeting Members present March 25th, as reported by records of Joseph Correa, checker, was 152.


Number of Town Meeting Members present March 26th, as reported by records of Joseph Correa, checker, was 141.


The Moderator declared a quorum present March 22nd, 24th, 25th and 26th, 1958.


The Town Meeting Members were sworn to the faithful performance of their duties by Herbert K. Bartlett, Town Clerk:


Article 2. To see if the Town will vote to authorize the broadcasting of the 1958 annual town meeting and appro- priate $200 for the expenses thereof and to broadcast future town meetings, annual or special, provided that the Town receive from the broadcasting facilities a tape recording of the entire proceedings of any meeting su broadcast.


The Committee recommends the broadcasting of the 1958 town meeting, provided it is done at no expense to the town as a public service.


Mr. A. Stanton Bubbins moved that the Town authorize the broadcasting of the 1958 Annual Town Meeting as a public service without appropriation.

Mr. Francis Shea moved to amend the motion of Mr. Bub- bins by substituting the following: That the Town authorize the broadcasting of the 1958 Annual Town Meeting and appro- priate $200.00 for the expenses thereof, and the Town receive from the broadcasting facilities a tape recording of the entire proceedings, and it was so voted.


Article 3. To hear reports of the several boards of officers and committees of the town and act thereon.


Voted: That the reports of the several boards of officers and committees of the Town be accepted and placed on file.


It was moved by Mr. Thomas Quinn and voted: That the report of the Committee on the Revision of the Zoning By- Laws be accepted, and placed on file, and that the Committee be continued in existence until the next Annual Town Meeting.


It was moved by Mr. Edward Chase and voted: That the report of the Planning Board on the Parking and Traffic Sur- vey as prepared by Bruce Campbell & Associates be accepted and the Moderator appoint a committee of five to study the report and to make recommendations to the Town as to what should be done and report to the Town not later than the next Annual Town Meeting and preferably at a Special Town Meeting to be held in the fall.


Article 4. To see if the Town will vote to authorize the Town Treasurer with the approval of the Selectmen to bor- row money from time to time in anticipation of the revenue of the financial year beginning January 1, 1959 and to issue a note or notes therefor payable within one year and to re- new any note or notes as may be given for a period of less than one year in accordance with Section 17, Chapter 44, General Laws.


Voted: That the Town authorize the Town Treasurer, with the approval of the Selectmen, to borrow money from time to time in anticipation of the revenue of the financial year beginning January 1, 1959, and to issue a note or notes therefor payable within one year and to renew any note or notes as may be given for a period of less than one year in accordance with Section 17, Chapter 44, General Laws.

Article 5. To see if the Town will vote to amend the Wage and Salary Classification By-law in accordance with the recommendations of the Personnel Board presently filed with the records of said Board.


The Personnel Board recommends that Schedule A and Exhibit B of the Wage and Salary Classification by-law be amended by substituting therefor the following Schedule A and Exhibit B, to be effective as of January 1, 1958:


The Personnel Board moved to amend the Wage and Sal- ary By-Law in accordance with the recommendations of the Personnel Board, as shown in the printed report of the Advis- ory and Finance Committee.


It was moved to amend the motion of the Personnel Board by reducing the minima and maxima in all A, B & E classi- fications by $200.00 each, but the motion to amend was lost.


The Personnel Board's motion was put before the Meet- ing and voted.
