BOSTON :
PRESS OF RAND, AVERY, & COMPANY.
1873.
alles of this peration, the voters of Massa- lasetts have corded their decision upon hissues presented for their consideration, n the result & chronicled below, together rth full details of the contest throughout the tte. The clear, cool weather and the gene- alinterest that has been aroused in every ak of the State combined to bring out the eserve vote in large numbers, and the result what has been confidently predicted for eeks at the Republican headquarters. In oston the gain in registration was fully presented in the vote cast, for, while the te of 1877 aggregated 34,264 out of a regis- ation of 44,605, the vote this year was 47,- F, out of a registration of 54,134, showing a in of nearly 4000 votes from the increased terest in the State's affairs, as well as a gain about 9500 voters by additional registration. s the vote in this city was 25,214 for Butler, ,762 for Talbot, and only 1800 for the other andidates, against 16,121 for Rice, and 16,335 Gastun last year, it would appear that the Mitional registration was largely in Butler's ferest, while the increase in the strength of Republican vote came largely from unusual interest in the result. It is dom that a more quiet election has taken ice here. The new precinct system proved great success, and the co-operation of the lice, under orders from the commissioners, de possible the presentation of the general gult at an early hour. Within two hours om the close of the polls the general results the city were known at City Hall, and a rge crowd of citizens eagerly awaited the turns at that place. In Suffolk county the ures show that the Republicans have cted 25 Representatives to 23 elected by the mocrats. Last year the Republicans cted 33 members to the House to 17 chosen the Democrats. The result of the election the Suffolk Senatorial districts gives Republicans 5 members of the Senate, and Democrats 2, and the Greenback party 1, t year's delegation being 7 Republicans and Democrat. The interest in the Congres- nal districts in which Boston is represented s one of the leading features of the elec. n, and Messrs. Field and Morse were ccessful over Messrs. Dean and Brimmer, . Field leading by a plurality of 516, and
. Morse having a plurality of 3806. e
Congressional delegation elected asists of ten Republicans and one mocrat, a gain of one for the former rty, the members elect being Messrs. apo, Harris, Field, Morse, Bowman, Loring, ssell, Claflin, Rice, Norcross and Robinson.
THE CITY.
In the appended tables the capitals affixed the names of various candidates indicate | heir political complexion, and have significa- on as thus explained: R., regular Republi- an; D., regular Democrat; G., Greenback; ., Prohibition; Ina., Independent. In a few
- ses the names of regular nominees were on ckets other than those of their regular par- es, and in such cases the fact is indicated by combination of capitals.
