1
REPORT OF THE SELECTMEN.
The Selectmen of the town of Weymouth for the year ending March 10th, 1862, respectfully submit the following Report :-
Owing to the very large expenditures of the town during the past year in aid of the war, we have felt that it was incumbent upon us to retrench, as far as possible, in those expenses which were in any degree within our control; and we have therefore to report that no new street or way has been laid out in the town since the last annual March meeting.
The new street laid out by the County Commissioners, from Oak to Pleasant Street, has been completed during the year, at an expense of one hundred and fifty-four dollars and eleven cents ($154.11,) in addi- tion to the sum reported in last year's schedule, and the extension of Neck Street has been gravelled at an expense of thirty-four dollars and sixty-two cents ($34.62.)
Amos S. White, Esq., has been continued the sole authorized agent in the town for the sale of spirituous and intoxicating liquors, and has conducted the business in a satisfactory manner, and without expense to the treasury of the town.
The Guide-boards required by law, with one or two exceptions, have been maintained throughout the year.
In compliance with the patriotic votes of the town on that subject, and under the provisions of the legislative Act passed 1861, the under- · signed have disbursed from the treasury, in monthly payments, to volun- teer soldiers enlisted in the service of the United States, and to their families, the sum of fifteen thousand three hundred and seventeen dollars and thirty cents ($15,317.30,) and a small amount is still due.
The whole amount paid previous to January 1, 1862, was twelve thousand two hundred and fifty-two dollars and twenty-two cents ($12,252.22,) of which sum five thousand seven hundred and seventy- nine dollars and twenty-six cents ($5,779.26) has been reported to the authorities of the State as having been paid under the provisions of the above named statute, and a claim for re-imbursement of that amount has been filed.
4
The town has a further claim upon the State for about sixteen hun- dred dollars ($1,600,) paid by us under the provisions of said statute since the first of January last; making the whole sum due from the State nearly seven thousand four hundred dollars ($7,400.)
We have also paid, from the sum appropriated by the town for that purpose, for the expenses incurred by the Weymouth Union Guard while drilling in this town, and for blankets, fatigue dress, and other necessary articles furnished them since their departure, the sum of eight hundred and fifty-two dollars and seventy-eight cents ($852.78.)

REPORT OF THE OVERSEERS OF THE POOR.
The Overseers of the Poor of the Town of Weymouth for the year ending February 1, 1862, respectfully ask leave to make the following Report :-
The number of paupers in the house at the commencement of the year, was twenty-seven ; the whole number during the year, thirty-seven ; the average was twenty-four; the number at the close of the year twenty-three.
The whole sum drawn from the treasury for the support of the poor in the house, including the salary of the Superintendent, has been sixteen hundred and fourteen dollars and thirty-two cents. We have allowed the town for the rent of the farm, three hundred dollars, making the whole cost of the poor in the house, two thousand and sixty-six dollars, and forty cents.
The amount charged by the overseers for their services, postage, travelling expenses, and cash paid by them, has been one hundred and twenty-five dollars and seventy-five cents.
The expense of each pauper per week, has been one dollar and sixty- six cents.
There has been two deaths in the house the past year, viz: Daniel Hurley, April 20th, aged 52 years, and George W. Dyer, May 12th, aged 48 years.
The expense of the poor out of the house amounts to fifteen hundred and sixty-two dollars and fifty-five cents. We have received and paid into the treasury, for support of poor from other towns, seventy-five dollars and eighty-three cents, making the net expense of the poor out of the house fourteen hundred and eighty-six dollars and seventy-two cents. Six hundred and twenty-one dollars and fifty-six cents of the above sum has been paid for the support of persons at the State Lunatic Hospitals, at Taunton and Worcester, which deduct that sum from the above amount leaves a balance for the actual support of the poor out of the house, eight hundred and sixty-five dollars and sixteen cents.
We have built a building for wood-house and workshop in the place of the one that was burnt in 1859, and made repairs on shoemakers' shop, at a cost of about three hundred dollars.
