ANNUAL REPORT SELECTMEN'S REPORT
To the Inhabitants of Dighton : -
Our Town is pleasantly situated on the west banks of the Taunton River; householders in a part of the Town are supplied by Municipal Water Works; main streets macadamized; State Highway connecting Bos- ton and Fall River, extending to Newport, R. I .; main line of the N. Y., N. H. & H. Railroad; Bristol County Agricultural School and farm; Co-operative Bank; Mt. Hope Hospital; Public Library; trolley car route between Taunton and Fall River; Electric Lighted Streets with business and domestic service; gas service ; best of High and Graded School service; Pumping station of the Somerset Water Works; Churches of the leading denominations ; Dighton Rock Grange; Tax Rate hover- ing around $25 on one thousand dollar valuation.
HIGHWAYS
At the Annual Town Meeting, fourteen thousand dollars was raised and appropriated to macadamize a section of Main Street easterly from Williams Street, provided the department of Public Works would aid by alloting a like sum and furnish the necessary engineering service.
The Department granted the request, the contract to make the improvement was awarded to the lowest bidder, Z. L. Canedy of Lakeville, who has built a first class macadam road for $27,745.98, the joint funds avail- able were $28,000. The remaining section of the street was given temporary repairs but its condition is such that it should be macadamized next year and we have assurance of aid. A section of Forest Street was macada-

mized, costing about $10,000, this street should be com- pleted next year.
Early in the year' an examination of Berkley and Dighton Bridge was made and found needing extensive repairs. The planks used were chemically treated, a pro- cess that extends its lasting qualities and two strips of sheet iron were laid on the roadway.
TOWN FINANCE
It is with pleasure that we are able to inform the taxpayers that the Town's bonded debt is only $3000 con- sisting of three notes of $1000 each, payable 1929, 1930, 1931.
The financial policy adopted in recent years has been "to pay as you go", and all Town expenses are met by direct taxation. The facts relative to proposed appropria- tions for the several departments and those emanating from the people are gathered and carefully considered by the Finance Committee and presented at the Town Meeting for action by the voters.
Respectfully submitted,
CHARLES S. CHASE, GEORGE B. GLIDDEN, LYMAN E. BRIGGS,
Selectmen of Dighton.

ANNUAL REPORT
REPORT OF THE BOARD OF PUBLIC WELFARE
To the Inhabitants of Dighton :-
The demands for relief have gradually increased each year, for many years. Large families, neglected children and State requirements, are factors in deter- mining the outlay.
The appropriation for Charity was $8,000. Expendi- tures amounted to $8,838.68, overdrawn $838.68, but we have been reimbursed $1,151.41 by individuals and municipally, leaving $7,687.27 as the net cost of sup- porting the charity department.
It is estimated that a larger appropriation should be made for 1929.
Details of expenditures as far as the statutes will permit will appear in the report of the Treasurer and Auditor.
Respectfully submitted,
CHARLES S. CHASE, GEORGE B. GLIDDEN, LYMAN E. BRIGGS,
Board of Public Welfare.
Dighton, December 31, 1928.

ANNUAL REPORT
REPORT OF THE BOARD OF HEALTH
To the Inhabitants of Dighton :-
Again we are able to report freedom of contagious diseases, excepting measles and chicken-pox which have prevailed quite extensively. The usual medical and dental clinics have been held.
The arrangements made last year with the State Department of Public Health to hold clinics in the North and South Villages to treat school children and others to render them immune from Diphtheria, Ty- phoid Fever, etc., was held with satisfactory attend- ance and results.
Physicians practising in Dighton, and householders are reminded that they are required to report in writing the name and address of patients suffering with a con- tagious disease.
Dighton, December 31, 1928.
Respectfully submitted,
CHARLES S. CHASE, GEORGE B. GLIDDEN, LYMAN E. BRIGGS,
Board of Health.

ANNUAL REPORT
NURSE'S REPORT FOR 1928
Board of Selectmen,
- - Dighton, Mass.
Gentlemen :
As in the past the greater part of the nursing work in Dighton is done for the school children, therefore, done through the schools. Excepting a few cases of the milder contagious diseases found among children, we have been very free from contagion.
The social welfare work has taken up much time, but time profitably spent. When children are neglected through poor home conditions, illness or death, the aim is to make an adjustment that will be fore the child's future welfare. Taking cases into the Courts are avoided as far as possible, but sometimes this step is necessary.
Cases attended in Court and proven wholly or partially neglected, 7. Miss Vaughan, the agent for the S. P. C. C. has been very co-operative and gave much helpful advice that in many cases meant the proper ad- justment without Court proceedings.
A list follows of medical and surgical cases who re- ceived nursing care and number of visits.
