The unusually large expenditure in the Health Depart- ment was caused by the diphtheria epidemic early in the winter. Both the Lesser and Eldridge families are very large and were quarantined at one time. One of the Lesser children died. The State Board of Health and town physi- cians made recommendations which were necessary to fol- low to rid the town of this epidemic.
