Fall Term from Wednesday, September 10 through Tuesday, December 23. Winter Term from Monday, January 5 through Friday, February 20. Spring Term from Monday, March 1 through Friday, April 16. Summer Term from Monday, April 26 through Friday, June 25. Fall Term 1920 begins Wednesday, September 8.

In stormy weather the Superintendent may close the schools for one or both sessions by sounding 2-2 four times on the fire alarm. The signal sounded at 7.30 will indicate no morning session for the elementary pupils below the Junior High School; at 12.30 no afternoon session for elementary schools

TOWN WARRANT


COMMONWEALTH OF MASSACHUSETTS. MIDDLESEX, SS. To any of the Constables of the Town of Arlington, in said County: GREETING :


In the name of the Commonwealth of Massachusetts, you are hereby required to notify and warn the inhabitants of the Town of Arlington, qualified as the Constitution requires, to meet in their respective voting places in said Town (Precinct One) Town Hall; (Precinct Two) Crosby School House, Winter Street, Monday, the third day of March, 1919, at 5.45 A. M. in Town Hall, Precinct One and at 6 A. M. in Crosby School, Precinct Two, to act on the following articles, viz:


ARTICLE 1. To elect by ballót the following town officers :- a Selectman for three years; a Town Clerk for one year; a Town Treasurer for one year; a Town Collector for one year; an Auditor for one year; a member of the Board of Public Works for three years; a member of the Board of Public Works for two years; one Assessor for three years; three members of the School Committee for three years; one member of the School Committee for one year: two Trustees of the Robbins Library for three years: one member of the Board of Health for three years; one Park Commissioner for three years; two members of the Planning Board for three years; one Trustee of the Pratt Fund for five years; one Commissioner for the Sinking Fund for three years; one Trustee of the Edwin S. Farmer Poor Widows: Fund and the Edsin S. Farmer Fund for Needy persons for five years: one Cemetery Commissioner for three years; a Tree Warden for one year; one or more Constables for one year. Also, on the same ballot to vote "Yes" or "No" upon the question "Shall licenses be granted for the sale of intoxicating liquors in this Town?"

The polls will open at 5.45 A. M. in Precinct One, Town Hall, and at 6.00 o'clock A. M., in Precinct Two, Crosby School House, and will be kept open in both precincts until five o'clock P. M.


You are also required to notify and warn the inhabitants afore- said to meet at the Town Hall in said Town on Monday, the third day of March, 1919, at 5.30 P. M., to act on the following articles :


ART. 2. To choose a Moderator to preside at said meeting.


ART. 3. To choose or appoint all the other usual town officers in such manner as the Town may determine.


The consideration of further business under this Warrant shall be postponed until such later time as the meeting may direct.


ART. 4. To hear and act on the reports of the Board of Selectmen and other Town officers and committees heretofore appointed.


ART. 5. To make an appropriation for the Robbins Library for the ensuing year.


ART. 6. To make an appropriation for the Public Schools for the ensuing year and determine in what manner the money shall be expended.


ART. 7. To see if the Town will appropriate the sum of $250 for the proper observance of Memorial Day, the same to be expended under the direction of Francis Gould Post 36, G. A. R.


ART. 8. To see if the Town will appropriate $7000 in ac- cordance with the vote passed December 6, 1904, for water used for public purposes for the ensuing year.


ART. 9. To see if the Town will make an appropriation for the construction of permanent sidewalks for the ensuing year.


ART. 10. To see if the Town will make an appropriation for the maintenance of the Sewerage System for the ensuing year, and determine in what manner the money shall be raised.


ART. 11. To see if the Town will make an appropriation for the use of the Highway Division, and determine in what man- ner the money shall be raised.


ART. 12. To see if the Town will make an appropriation for street lighting.

Art. 13. To see if the Town will make an appropriation to be expended for suppressing the gypsy and brown tail moths, in accordance with the provisions of Chapter 381 of the Acts of 1905 and amendments thereto, and determine in what manner the money shall be raised.


ART. 14. To see if the Town will make an appropriation for the planting of trees, removal of dead and dangerous trees and for the trimming and general care of existing trees, the same to be expended under the direction of the Tree Warden.


ART. 15. To see if the Town will make an appropriation for the removal of snow and ice from the highways, or take any action thereon.


ART. 16. To see if the Town will make an appropriation for the engineering work of the Town, said appropriation to include the salary of the Town Engineer, or take any action thereon.


ART. 17. To see if the Town will make an appropriation for the extension of storm drains, or take any action thereon.


ART. 18. To see if the Town will make an appropriation for the maintenance and improvement of the public parks of the Town, determine in what manner the money shall be raised, or take any action thereon.


ART. 19. To see if the Town will appropriate the sum of $500 for the maintenance of a free bed in the Symmes Arlington Hospital; said bed to be for the care and treatment of residents of the Town who are unable to pay for such care and treatment, in accordance with the provisions of Chapter 44 of the General Acts of 1915, or take any action thereon.


ART. 20. To see what action the Town will take in regard to the extension of water mains, make an appropriation for the same, and determine in what manner the money shall be raised.


ART. 21. To see if the Town will vote to authorize the Selectmen to acquire by purchase, or otherwise, for municipal purposes, a certain strip of land situate on Mystic Street, bounded on the north by land of the Arlington Steam Laundry Company and land of the Arlington Gas Light Company, easterly by land of the Town of Arlington, southerly by land of the heirs of Bernard McGowan, westerly by lands of Mar- garet T. McConnell, Esther Irwin and Teresa Raia, southerly by land of said Teresa Raia, and westerly by Mystic Street,

containing about 109,780 square feet; make an appropriation for the same, determine in what manner the money shall be raised, or take any action thereon.


ART. 22. To see if the Town will vote to accept and establish as a town way the private way known as Aberdeen Road, as laid out by the Joint Board of Selectmen and Board of Public Works, under the provisions of law authorizing the assessment for betterments, make an appropriation for the same, determine in what manner the money shall be raised, or take any action thereon. Said way as laid out is described as follows:

Art. 34. To determine in what manner the town ways, highways and bridges shall be repaired the ensuing year.


ART. 35. To see if the Town will appoint the Selectmen agents of the Town to institute and prosecute in favor of the Town, and appear and defend suits and legal proceedings against or involving the interests of the Town, with power to employ counsel therein, and when necessary in all other legal matters and business appertaining to town affairs during the year com- mencing March 1, 1919.
