REPORT OF THE School Committee
To the Citizens of Westhampton :
The School Committee held 12 regular meetings and a special meeting, at the school during the year.
They also attended the annual meeting and two special meetings of the Joint School Boards in Union No. 3.
Membership was taken out in the Massachusetts Associ- ation of School Committees as a progressive move. This association keeps the committee informed as to new bills and laws effecting the school.
During the summer vacation Mrs. Eleanor Clapp and Miss Rachel Bridgman attended summer school at Springfield College and Mr. Frederick Fedor attended the University of Massachusetts for his summer study. To further his education, Mr. Fedor is attending Springfield College during the winter and spring working for his Masters Degree.
Much credit is due the P.T.A. and Mr. Fedor for their efforts in instituting a hot lunch program in the school, which is 100% successful. The School Committee had a gas range, which was donated, connected in the back hall and Mr. Fedor put up the tiling and did the painting.
There were some repairs and improvements made during the vacation. New toilets were put in to replace the broken ones, the wash bowl in the hall way was moved into one of the toilet rooms and a new one put in the other. A new White Enamel sink was installed in the back room for washing dishes. Hot water was installed, an 88 gal. tank of the Perma-Glass Type is used for the water and is heated with electricity during the night which incidently costs about $2.74 per month, this is for about 70 pupils and faculty, it is also used for washing dishes 5 times a week which is in connection with the hot lunch program.
30
While installing the electric signal horn it was discovered that there were holes in the roof. This necessitated the in- stallation of a new roof on the west side of the building and the roof over the rear hall was repaired.
The foundation of the school is badly cracked and lets the water run into the basement, this in time is going to ruin the stoker and heating system. Serious consideration must be given to re-flooring the rooms and particularly the halls, pos- sibly with Asphalt Tile or linoleum.
We wish at this time to thank Mr. Dexter for his fine spirit of co-operation and for the time he has given to the Westhampton School and all concerned with it, also to the faculty, janitors, P.T.A. and all others connected with the school system.
Respectfully submitted,
ELLIS T. HOVER, Chairman HOWARD F. LOUD, Secretary ESTELLE E. FRARY
