REGULATIONS CONCERNING FIRE ALARMS.
First alarm to be given on bells and whistle, by strike- ing four rounds.
Second alarm to be given by ten blows struck once.
1 One stroke at M. and 9. P. M. every day.
1-1 Two strokes slow for fire out, and all apparatus under way will return to quarters.
One first alarm from boxes 27-32-34-35-36-37-38-39-41 43, Hose 3, will take position in the Hose 1's house
On second alarm from boxes 16-17-18-21-23-25-27-29, the Chemical engine will take position in Hose 1's house.
Members of companies not responding on first alarm shall report at the house of their respective companies, and remain there twenty minuets, unless the recall signal has been sounded. After a first alarm has been given and before the recall signal is sounded, should an alarm be given from another box, all unemployed first and seconed alarm companies will respond.
22 Signal for No. School, 4 rounds.
Also a special box for Town Hall, except between the hours of 7 and 8.30 a. m.
EUGENE N. DAVIS, Supt.
INFORMATION FOR YOU.
Keys to the boxes may be found at the nearest house.
Before ringing in an alarm be sure that a fire actually exists.
267
MISCELLANEOUS DEPARTMENT
Do not give an alarm for a fire seen at a distance, as all needless alarms are an expense to the town, and should be avoided as much as possible.
" To give an aların, pull down the hook in the box once (without jerking) and let go. Wait a few seconds and if you hear no clicking of the wheels, pull again (no clicking, no alarm) ; if then no movement is heard,go to the nearest box and try, of which report immediately, to the superin- tendent or at the station, the box out of order.
All persons giving fire alarms are requested to remain by the box, if possible, to direct the fireman to the fire. Each box contains a small bell which if heard before you pull indicates that the alarm has been previously given.
After the first alarm has been rung in, all other alarms or signals are given only by the engineer.
Tampering with any of the apparatus connected with the Fire Alarm Telegraph will be prosecuted to the full extent of the law.
SPECIAL NOTICE.
The fact that an alarm box is located near their resi- dence and where the key is kept, should be known to al- persons, both male and female, and the simple manner of giving an alarm in case of fire should be a matter of com- mon education. The Board of Engineers recommends to all persons who may see this notice, that they make all necessary inquiries to enable them, in case of need, either to get the key and pull an alarm in, or direct others to do so. Time saved in this way may prevent conflagration.
