GREAT CITY DIRECTORY ORGANIZATION SERVING

3,651,320 People in the most densely

- populated area in America

Annually, with a trained organization within these five states, serving one hundred and forty-one communities, each street and building is thoroughly canvassed for new names, changes and verification of prior information, after which by trained investigators, sections are again recanvassed to keep our name takers keyed up to a high degree of accuracy.

Through the process of sorting, compilation and still greater refining for accuracy, each name is handled twelve times as it becomes a part of the five departments when combined and printed into city directories, renders a service unsurpassed for those who know that without knowledge, activi- ties become wasteful, confused and subject to duplication.

Advertising Agencies

CAMBRIDGE, MASSACHUSETTS DIRECTORY-1961

Do you make these costly mistakes in your advertising

Advertising objectives not clearly defined ... If you can't say how effective your advertising is, chances are that your uncertainty stems from a lack of specific objectives to use as yardsticks of accomplishment.

Advertising objectives not related to sales objectives ... Basic? Very! But you'd be surprised at the number of companies whose salesmen are going in one direction while their advertising sails blissfully on in another.

Program not tailored to concentrate on best prospects ... Knowing who your best prospects are and the best ways to reach them is essential to advertising effec- tiveness. (Have you analyzed your market - and your sales - recently to determine who your current best prospects are?)

Copy not tailored to specific interests of prospects ... If your prospects are hungry for facts they'll gag on fancy. Effective copy can be written only after you've determined exactly who your prospects are and what it takes to make them buy.

Just one of these mistakes can rob your advertising program of its full potential.

For complete information on how to evaluate your advertising program-and how you may be able to im- prove it - write or call

In May 1874, James Huntington, a Harvard Square Jeweler, concerned for Cambridge children in need, opened a small house on Avon Place to which 10 children were admitted. Five months later The Avon Home was incorporated under the laws of the Com- monwealth of Massachusetts. The fledgling institu- tion grew and in December 1891 a larger building was opened on Mount Auburn Street.

Time brought changes. At the turn of the century institutions were closing and children were being planned for in foster families. The Avon Home, accepting this new philosophy, closed the doors of the Mount Auburn Street building in 1913, and became what it is today - a case work agency in the field of child care.

Serving Cambridge children of all races and creeds,

THE AVON HOME offers :

when you need it.

The workers in this agency have had years of special training and practical experience. They also know the available resources of the public and private agencies in the community. They can help a person understand his problem and work out the best way of meeting it.

Consulting with a Family Society worker means using the best available professional service, as you would use the services of a doctor or a lawyer when his help is needed. Service is available to every- one, regardless of ability to pay. Those who can are expected to pay a fee based on their income.
