I have examined the securities of the funds mentioned, and find them in the hands of the treasurer as stated in his report. Also have taken from the tax books the amount due the city, and find the gross amount to be $42,649.49, and to compare with the collector's report. Also ledger accounts as per trial balance Dec. 18, 1886, and find them correct.

In closing my report allow me to say, that it appears the situa- tion of the city financially is much improved, from the fact that matters of litigation and award have been settled during the past year, and I trust that such economy in the management of the city expenses in the future will be used as will lighten the burden of taxation.

E. BURRILL, Auditor.
