ANNUAL REPORTS ATKINSON SCHOOL FUND.
To His Honor the Mayor and Board of Aldermen of the City of Newburyport :
GENTLEMEN :- The standing committee of the board of aldermen on the Atkinson School fund re- port that it appears from the annual statement presented by the treasurer of the board of trustees, Hon. Benj. Hale, for the year 1895, that the fund is invested as follows :

It further appears from said statement that an evening school was maintained in ward six for 40 evenings, taught by two competent teachers, at an expense of $88.63.
The amount withdrawn from the savings bank exceeded the amount deposited, $6.25, which is but a small portion of the income on the deposit in the savings bank. The fund is therefore increased by the difference.

BROMFIELD FUND.

GENTLEMEN :- The standing committee of the board of aldermen on Bromfield fund respectfully submit the following report in relation to the condition of the fund and the disposition made of the income therefrom for the year ending December 31, 1895.
INVESTMENT OF THE FUND.
$10,000.00 in Hospital Life Insurance Company, Boston, at 4 per cent , payable annually.
INCOME.

In accordance with the terms of the bequest one-half the in- come to be devoted to shade trees on the public streets of the city and one half to the improvement of sidewalks.
Sixty rock maple trees were furnished and planted in various parts of the city.

In these improvements one-half expense paid on 290 feet edgestone furnished and set ; 146 yards concrete walk laid ; 7800 bricks furnished and laid.

WILLIAM O. MOSELEY FUND.
To the Hon. Mayor and Board of Aldermen of the City of Newburyport :
GENTLEMEN :-. The standing committee of the board of aldermen on William O. Moseley fund, in accordance with the provisions of rule 12 of the rules of the board of aldermen, would respectfully report that on the first of April, 1895, the board of aldermen, trustees of the public library, were notified by the executors of the will of the late William O. Moseley of this city that they were ready to pay to the Newburyport Public Library ten thousand dollars in accordance with terms of the bequest of the late William O. Moseley.
Subsequently the board of trustees received the following communication : "It is the wish of the executors, that the sum of ten thousand dollars be kept as a separate fund to be known as the William O. Moseley fund and that the annual report of the trustees of the public library shall contain a report of the condition of said fund."

The following statistics relating to births, mar- riages and deaths in the city of Newburyport for the year ending December 31, 1895, are compiled for information and comparison.
BIRTHS.
The number of children born alive during the year 1895 and recorded in this office is 354, 35 more than for the preceding year. Of this number 177 were males, 177 females. Three pairs of twins, one pair males, one pair females and one pair male and fe- male. All white except two. Three returned as illegitimate.

The average age of grooms, 28.32; average of brides, 24.65 ; oldest couple married, the groom 62 years and the bride 55 years, the third marriage of the groom, the first of the bride ; the young- est couple, groom 16, and the bride 15. There were 16 grooms under age, one 16 years, three 18 years, three 19 years and nine 20 years. Ten brides under age, one 15, one 16 and eight 17. First marriage of 130 grooms and 147 brides ; second marriage of 27 grooms and 13 brides ; third marriage of 4 grooms and 1 bride.
Of five couples both were under age ; of 24 couples the brides were older than the grooms and of 18 couples ages were the same.
DEATHS.
Deaths occurring in this city during the year 1895, not in- cluding still births, were 274, 28 more than the preceding year.
The number recorded for the year including 12 stillbirths 358. Of this number 72 deaths occurred in other places and were brought to this city for interment.
The interments in this city exceeded the deaths by 24, more brought here than were removed by that number. Of the number removed for interment 19 went to Newbury and West Newbury.
