Concord June 27. 1774 at a general Town meeting of the Inhabitants of the Town of Concord upon an adjournment the first articule was Still under Consideration and after Cooly and Deliberately Debating upon what was Con- tained in the Letters and other papers Sent to this Town they Came into the following Covenant and engagements which was Signed by near three Hundred persons that was upwards of twenty one years of age
We the Subscribers Inhabitants of the Town of Concord having taken into our Serious Consideration the precarious State of the Liberties of north america, and more Especially the present Destressed Conditions of this Insulted Province, Imbarressed as it is by Several acts of the butich parliment, tending to the Entire Sub- version of our natural and Charter Rights; amonge which is the act for block up the harbour of Boston: and fully Sensible of our Indispensable duty to day hold on every means in our power to preserve, and Recover the much Injured Constitution of our Country; and Concious at the Same time of no alternative between the horrors of Slavery, on the Carnage + Disolation of a Civil war, but a Suspention of all Commer- cial intercourse. with the Island of great bution Do in the presence of god, Solemnly and in good Faith Covenant and engage with each other, first that from hence forth we will Suspend all Commercial intercourse with the Said Island of great Britain untill the Said act for blocking up the Said harbour be Repealed, and a Restoration of our Charter Rights be obtained - and
