"PEERLESS" FURNACE.
We would call the attention of the public to the new "Peerless" Fur- nace, which contains more valuable and meritorious points than any other Furnace in the market. It has been thoroughly tested for the last five years, and has given universal satis- faction. For durability, economy of fuel, and ease of management, the " PEERLESS" surpasses any other in the market.
There are a few important points to be considered in the selection of a Furnace, viz. : durabihty, simplicity in construction and management ; least liability to get out of order least expensive to repair ; possessing the largest radiating surface in a compact form and near proximity to the fuel, and will not leak gas.
After thirty years in the business, the subscribers claim to have a Fur- nace of superior merit. The prevail- ing error among manufacturers and purchasers, is to get a cheap Fur- nace; and competition has filled the market with those of a light material, which will but last for a short time. RUSSELL The " Peerless" Furnace has advan- tages over all others, possessing double the radiating surface of all other kinds : its adaption to low cellars; and its con- struction of cast iron, exclusively. The several parts are of uniform construction, and are connected in such a manner that the expansion and contraction cannot, in the least, strain the iron or joints. to cause the leakage of gas. The upper section of the fire-pot is not enlarged at the top, as In most Furnaces, but is made smaller, thereby preventing a collection of sont or ashes, and giving direct heat from the fire. Any surface placed at a high point in the air chamber, tends to diminish rather than increase heat, especially when the smoke flue is connected at the top of the Furnace, as the iron cannot receive or impart the heat to the hot air of the chamber [at the same height], only so far as the smoke or gases excel in temperature of heat that in the air chamber, the remainder passing off to the chimney. The whole principle is reversed in this Furnace, the upper extremity receiving the greater heat, thereby Imparting additional intensity to the ascending hot air. while those portions of iron least heated are suspended at a low posi- tlon, coming in contact with the cold air. This position is the most perfect for radiation, as the cold nir takes the heat from the iron. There Is no strain of iron or joints by ex- pansion or contraction of the extensive exterior surface, which is suspended from the dome in such a manner as to rise and fall as the heat of the iron varies, thus leaving the joints Intaet.
The grate is simple, and is easily moved or dumped, The cold air passes under the Furnace, taking up all heat radiated from the hase and pit. The number of the Fur. nace denotes the size of the grate.
