INSTRUCTION TO KEY-HOLDERS.
Upon the discovery of fire, go to the nearest box, open the same, and pull the hook down once only ; then let go ; listen, if the gong in the box strikes ; if not, pull again. If you fail the second time, go to the next nearest box and do the same.
Remain at the box, if possible, after giving an alarm, to direct the firemen to the fire.
Do not give an alarm for a fire seen at a distance.
Be sure the box is closed before leaving it.
