2-Two blows will dismiss companies in waiting and give notice that companies in service have "made up." Sould an alarm occur from another box before this sig- nal is given, companies answering second will answer first and companies answering third will answer on second.
If companies responding to Boxes 35, 36, 37, 45 and 46 on second and third alarms, are wanted without ap- paratus, one round of the box will follow
3 -- Three blows, second alarm
3-3-Three blows twice, third alarm
10-10-Ten blows will assemble the police in case of emergency
22-22-22-Twenty-two struck three times at 7.30 a m indicates no session of schools in the morning; same signal at 12.35 p m indicates no afternoon session
6-6-Out of city signal six blows twice Companies will assemble at their respective stations and await or- ders
7-7-7-Military call. seven blows struck three times
Railroad fire signal-One long blow of the locomo- tive whistle followed by three short blows repeated twice or more
3-3-3-Three blows three times call for assistance from the city of Newton
. INSTRUCTIONS TO KEY HOLDERS
Upon the discovery of fire go to the nearest box open the door and pull the hook down once only, then let go : listen if the gong in the box strikes; if not shut the door, open it and pull again. If you fail the second time go to the nearest box and do the same.
Remain at the box if possible, after giving an alarm, to direct the fireman to the fire. Do not give an alarm for a fire seen at a distance.
Be sure the box is closed before leaving it.
If you remove from your house or place of business, return the key to the Chief Engineer
