GLOUCESTER AND ROCKPORT DIRECTORY.

Dr. CARPENTER,

Late of Maine, has purchased the residence and located permanently for Practice at

No. 15 Rollins St., Boston. (Leading from No. 1132 Washington St.)

Dr. C. devotes his time and attention exclusively to the scientific treatment and cure of

CHRONIC CATARRH, SCROFULA, and all diseases of the EYE, EAR, THROAT and LUNGS. OFFICE HOURS, from 10 to 4.

SPECIAL NOTICE .- Previous to locating in Boston - with the exception of a few weeks' prac- tise at Salem, Mass .- Dr. C. for the past six years, confined his practice to a few of the Icading cities of Maine; but many and earnest solicitations, from sufferers in Massachusetts and neighboring States, induced him to locate permanently in Boston, which is so situated as to be easily reached from any portion of New England. The Testimonials attached are GENUINE and received NOT from a great distance, but from where they can be easily investigated, as the names and addresses are attached in full. Hundreds of others can be seen at Dr. C.'s residence.

Testimonial of David Bugbec, Esq., of Bangor.

[From the Bangor Whig.]

BANGOR, Feb. 18, 1870.

Being severely afflicted with Chronic Catarrh, I applied to Dr. Carpenter at the Bangor House, in March, 1868, and in jus- tice to Dr. C., and that others may be benefited, I would inform those interested that a course of his treatment cured me of the complaint. No amount of money would induce me to remain in the condi- tion I was in when I consulted the Doctor. D. BUGBEE, No. 5 Kenduskeag Bridge.

Testimonial of Rufus Smith, Esq., of Newburyport, Mass, [From the Boston Journal.]

DR. CARPENTER-Dear Sir : Your treatment restored my hearing. My ears were diseased twenty years and had be- come very deaf indeed. I hear perfectly well now. RUFUS SMITH .. Newburyport, Mass., Jan. 10, 1870. .

From the Gospel Banner, Au- gusta, Maine.

We learn that Dr. Carpenter, the well- known Oculist and Aurist, who has prac- tised so successfully the past six years in this State, is about to locate permanently for practice in Boston. Persons troubled with blindness, deafness, or catarrh, will do well to consult him. We know him personally. He is a gentleman, is well read in his profession, is no humbug or deceiver, and will not as many do, tell the patient he can effect a cure without rea- sonable grounds for his declaration. He wrought many cures in this vicinity and essentially helped others who had suf- fered for years. This is written by the editor of the Banner without solicitatation from any one.

Testimonial of Mrs. Wyer, of Portland, Maine. [From the Portland Press.]

I consulted Dr. Carpenter in 1866, hav- ing been blind a year and a half. Was confined to my room, my health and ner-

vous system exhausted, and was com- pletely discouraged, for six eminent phy- sicians had pronounced me incurable ; but Dr. Carpenter's remedies cured me PER- MANENTLY. My sight was restored and remains good.

MRS. MARY E. WYER. Middle St., Portland, Jan. 2, 1870.

Testimonial of an old and well- known Citizen of Ipswich, Mass.

DR. CARPENTER - My Dear Sir : The course of treatment prescribed by you at Salem proved highly successful. I had been afflicted with Catarrh many years, and had gradually become hard of hear- ing, and my deafness was increasing, but your remedies have cured my deafness. I, can hear as well as before I had any trou- ble, and now I have very little trouble with Catarrh, and think that will soon be entirely cured. Am willing this should be made public, that others may be in- duced to employ you and become cured.

Very Respectfully, yours, JOHN PINDER. Ipswich, Mass., Dec. 19, 1869 .?

From "Boston Journal," Jan- uary 1, 1870.

Our readers will notice that Dr. Carpen-' ter, physician for catarrh and diseases of the eye, ear, throat and lungs, occupies our first page to-day with numerous evi- dences and proofs of his skill and success in practice, that must be convincing even to the most incredulous. Dr. C. is a new comer to Boston, having confined his prac- tice during the past five years mostly to the principal cities and towns of Maine, where the climate is favorable to the con- traction of the worst forms of those dis- eases to which he devotes his attention exclusively. We have examined the " Gospel Banner," of Augusta, the Ban- gor " Whig," the Portland "Press," and other equally reliable Maine papers, from whose columns these testimonials were copied, and have no doubt of their be- ing genuine and reliable, as these papers testify that Dr. C. is a gentleman, a skilful physician, and that his testimonials are genuine, they being personally acquainted

with persons whom he has cured after they have been pronounced incurable by other physicians.

Testimonial of Miss C. F. Cobb, of Augusta. [From the Gospel Banner.]

I was afflicted with diseased eyes scv- eral years, and was fast losing my sight- could see to read or sew a few minutes at a time only - was unable to see across the room in the evening, and my eyes were much inflamed. All I doctored for them was of no benefit, until, by the advice of friends, I consulted Dr. Carpenter, in July, 1867. A course of his treatment cured them perfectly. I have had no re- turn of the disease, and can now see as well as ever. C. F. COBB.

Augusta, March 12, 1869.

· Testimonial of Hon. Z. Collins, of Union, Me.

DR. CARPENTER,- Dear Bir : Learning you arc in Boston, I write for the pur- pose of informing you that the hearing of my son, Leroy Z. Collins, remains per- fectly good. In March, 1865, you cured him of deafness of fifteen years standing, which had increased to that extent that he was obliged to leave his studies and went to a trade. He has resumed his studies, which, without your assistance he never could have done. May you live long, prosper in your profession, and es- pecially cause the deaf to hear, is the de- sire of,

.Yours, very gratefully, Z. COLLINS.

Testimonial of Mr. B. F. Dennis, of Salem, Mass. [From the Salem Gazette.] TO THE PUBLIC .- As a testimonial to the skill of Dr. Carpenter, I would in-

form those interested, that in the year 1864, I placed my son Frank under his care for a dangerous and disagreeable chronic disease of the head, that he had long suf- fered from, and which had impaired both his health and hearing. But I rejoice to say Dr. Carpenter's remedies per- formed a perfect and permanent cure, he having had no return of the disease. The above, with a personal knowledge of many other cures performed, have in- spired me with confidence in Dr. C.'s skill; and I would recommend my friends and the public, who may be in need of medical treatment to apply to him at once. B. F. DENNIS. Salem, Mass., March 1, 1870.

Egy Mr. Dennis is a well-known Piano Forte 'Tuner, and can be seen by those in- terested, at the Book and Music Store of D. B. BROOKS & Bros., Essex Street.

Testimonial of W. F. Morrill, Esq., of Portland. [From the Portland Press. ]

I suffered from discharge of the ear thirty-four years, but I placed myself under Dr. Carpenter's care in 1865, and after applying his remedies two months, my ear was cured and remains so.

W. F. MORRILL, Cor. Congress and Exchange sts. Portland, Me., Jan. 2, 1870.

Testimonial of A. R. Greenough, Esq., Prop. National Hotel, Bangor, Maine. [From the Bangor Whig. ]

Dr. Carpenter cured me of Catarrh that was so severe as to threaten to speedily put an end to my existence, in the year 1865, and I remain cured to this date. Would recommend him to all similar suffercrs.

Bangor, Me., March 5, 1870.
