Caleb Butler, summoning them in the name of the chh. to appear before this body, & saying to them, that if they did not appear at this meeting, or if the chh. did not hear from them this time, it would be taken for granted that they refused to make any communications to the Church. No answer having been rec! from either, the Church, after much painful deliberation, voted
Unanimously, that for offences heretofore specified, & for having contemned the authority of this church, the relation heretofore subsisting between Joseph Sartell & Caleb Butler, & this church ought to be, & hereby is, dissolved, & that they are no longer members of the visible church of Christ.

Voted, That for the purpose of seeking wisdom & help from God in this time of trial, & to seek the influences of the Holy Spirit, this chh. hold a weekly Prayer-meeting at the house of their Pastor, on Saturday at 5 ock. P. M.
Voted that this meeting be adjourned to Wednesday, at 5 ock. P. M. the 23" of August, at this place. The meeting was then closed with prayer.

Aug. 23. 1826. The church met according to adjournment. The meeting was opened by reading the Scriptures & prayer. It being stated to the church that letters had been sent to the offending brethren, as by page 65 of these Records, but that probably these letters had not been rec! by all of them,
Voted, That the Pastor send duplicates to each of these brethren, delivering them into the hands of the brethren who entered the several complaints who shall be witnesses that they are duly delivered.
The result & advice of the Council convened yesterday was then read, so far as they had prepared it, - it being understood that a more full result is yet to be reel from them.

Voted that there be a Committee of this Chh. appointed to in- quire into the expediency of obtaining legal advice in behalf of this chh ; & to engage such advice as they think necessary.
Voted that brs. Micah Eldredge, William Nutting, & Timothy Stone be this Committee.
Voted, That our Pastor be requested soon to call a meeting of the Church at the Meeting House, to consider the expediency of acting on the subject of a Call which this Town has given to Mr. Charles Robinson to become the Religious Teacher of this Town.
Br. James P. Chaplin a member of the Chh. in Cambridgeport being providentially present, made remarks on the present state of affairs in this Town.

Aug. 31, 1826. The Church met according to proper public notice of the Pastor at the meeting house. The Pastor having written a note to Caleb Butler, Chairman of the Select men request- ing him to direct the house to be opened at the hour of meeting, & the house being refused, & the doors fastened, the meeting was held on the door-steps in front of the Meeting House. The Pastor acted as Moderator, & opened the meeting with prayer. He then stated the object of the meeting. viz. Will this chh. invite the Rev. Charles Robinson to become their Pastor & religious Teacher ? The votes being taken, Twenty were laid on the Table, & all Nays. \ Committee, consisting of brothers, T. Stone, Samuel Rockwood, & T. T. Farnsworth, was then appointed to make known, in a manner they should think proper, the doings of this chh. to the Town, & also to the Council that may convene to install Mr. Robinson, should such a council be convened. The Pastor then addressed the chh. for some fifteen or twenty minutes on the necessity of a christian temper in a time like this.
The Assistant Moderator, in the name of the Moderator, then stated that brs. Walter Dickson, Abel Tarbell, Luther Blood, Ne! Tarbell, & Stuait J. Park, had been complained of as having walked disorderly in having held or attended a seperate communion of the chh. expressly against the vote of the chh. & the Remon- strance of the Pastor, &, according to a vote of the chh. had twice been summonded before the chh., & bad refused to appear or make ny communications to the chh.

Voted, Unanimously, That for this conduct, the relation which has existed between Walter Dickson, Abel Tarbell. Luther Blood, Ne! Tarbell, & Stuart J. Park, ought to be, & hereby is dissolved, -- & they are no longer members, of the visible church of Christ.
Br. Dea. T. Stone stated to the chh. that he had complained to Br. Amos Bancroft for the like offence, & receiving no satisfaction, he took with him br. J. Park as a witness, & receiving nothing but abuse, they complain to the chh.
Voted, That our Pastor be requested to summon Br. Bancroft in the name of the chh. to appear before us at our next meeting.
Voted that this meeting be adjourned to thursday next at 3 ock. P. M. at the house of our Pastor.
The meeting was then closed with prayer by the assistant Moderator.

Thursday Sept. 7, 1826. The chh. met at the house of the Pastor agreeably to adjournment. The meeting was opened with prayer. It was stated that a letter of summons had been sent to br. Amos Bancroft, & that he refused to read it, knowing it came from the Pastor.
Voted unanimously, that his connexion with this chh. ought to be, & hereby is dissolved, & he is no longer a member of the visible chh. of Christ.
Br. Jonas Eaton complained that he had made like complaint to br. Elnathan Sawtell, taking br. S. Hartwell as a witness, - that br. Sawtell utterly refused to give any satisfaction or even to hear them.
Voted that the Pastor give him a summons to appear before the chh. at the next meeting.
Voted to adjourn to Saturday, Sept. 16, at 5 ock. P.M. at the house of our Pastor.

Saturday Sept. 16, 1826. The church met agreeably to adjourn- ment. The case of br. Elnathan Sawtell being brought before the chh. & it being stated that he had been called on by Brs. J. Eaton & S. Voted unanimously, That a committee be appointed to inquire if this chh. could legally hold a Communion at the House of their Pastor, (being excluded from the meeting House, ) without en- digering their rights as the first chh. in Groton : -- that brs. Dea. Stone, Eldredge, & Scovell Rockigood, be this committee.
Voted unanimously, That, whereas Mr. Chs. Robinson has reed a call to settle as the minister of this Town expressly agaist the unan- imous vote of this Chh. when called to see if they would concur, & is to be Installed on the first Wednesday in Now, we will observe that day as a Day of Fasting & Prayer, feeling it to be a frown of providence thus to have a unitarian minister over this people ; - that Dea. Dickson, brs. Eldredge & Eaton be a committee to inquire whether this Fast shall be held in public or in private.
Voted, That brs. Stone, Eldredge, & Sewell Rockwood be a com- mittee to inquire if there be no danger to the interests of this Chh. in regard to the Ministerial Fund in this Town, in the formation of a New Church in this place; - & if there be no such danger, we give it as our opinion that a new church be formed.
Voted, unanimously, That as we consider it contrary to the spirit of our holy religion, this church will not only abstain from the use of ardent Spirits at Funerals, but will do all in their power to discountenance it on such occasions.
Voted to adjourn this meeting to Saturday, the 28! of Oct. at 4 ock. P. M. at the House of the Pastor.

Nov. 21, 1826. The Church met at the house of her Pastor, agreeably to notice. A letter missive from individuals in this ' Town was read, inviting this chh. to meet by her Pastor & a Dele- gate to assist in forming an Ecclesiastical Council to see if said Council would organize the said individuals into a regular church of Jesus Christ.
Voted Unanimously, That we comply with this request.
