1872 The resignation of the Rev. Samuel Cutler, after a Apr. I ministry of 30 years and 5 months in the Parish, took East. Mon. effect.
1872 The Rev. Wm. Henry Brooks, S. T. D. formerly Rector Apr. 14 of the Church of the Reconciliation, Webster, Mass., commenced his labors in the Parish.
1872 Mrs. Samuel Salmond presented the Parish with a solid Oct. 6. silver service for the Holy Communion, numbering four pieces -- a Paten, a Flagon and two Cups-inclosed in a substantial Black Walnut Box.
On the Paten are the words " The Communion of the Body of Christ."
On the Flagon are the words " The Communion of the Blood of Christ."
On the Cups are the " with a Cross resting on the con- necting bar of the "H."
On the bottom of each piece are the words " Presented by Mrs. Eliza Salmond. In memory of her husband and daughter Octo- ber 6th. A. D. 1872.".
1872 Miss Adie A. Bigelow presented the Parish with a Oct. 6. solid silver spoon.

1872 Mrs. Horatio Bigelow presented the Parish with a set of Oct. 6. Linen for the Holy Communion, and a pair of Alms Basins.
1873 Mrs. Samuel Salmond presented the Parish with a Nov. I. Stone Font and a Carved Black Walnut Cover.
On the Bowl are the words " By One Spirit Are We All Baptized Into One Body."
On the Column is a Cross.
On the Base are the words " In Memoriam. Mary Sylvester. September 8, A. D. 1865. The Gift of Mrs. Eliza Salmond. All Saints' Day A. D. 1873."
1873 Miss Lillie S. Sylvester presented the Parish with two Dec. 25. copies of the Standard Prayer Book in memory of her mother Mrs. Mary Salmond Sylvester.

1878 "In the Chapel of the Church Home for Orphans, Jan. 9. South Boston, I deposed from the Ministry the Rev. Samuel Cutler, he having abandoned this Church and joined the so-called Reformed Episcopal Church."-Bp. Paddock's Address, Journal of Convention, Dio. of Mass: 1878.
1879 The Parish Sewing Circle celebrated, with appropriate July 18 exercises, the close of the Fiftieth year of its existence.
1880 A commodious and churchly Chancel was added to the Mar. 28 Church, almost the entire expense of which was borne East. Day by Mrs. Horatio Bigelow and Mrs. Eliza Salmond, in equal proportions.
In connection with this addition, the interior of the Church edifice at the expense of the Parishioners, while still retaining many of its original features, was greatly changed and vastly

improved. From a sum of money remaining after paying all the obligations incurred by Trinity Church, Marshfield, which through deaths and removals ceased to exist, there was procured a Holy Table, memorial of those who were its communicant members, and who now in the Lord are sleeping. On the front panels of the Holy Table are the " Alpha " and the "Omega" and the " Chi Rho."
On the front of the Re-Table are the words " This Do In Remembrance of Me."

1880 Lightning in the form of a ball of fire, descended on June I. the Church, burning the spire and the tower to the bell
Tuesday deck and extensively shattering the front of the build- ing. Through the heroic exertions of parishioners and neighbors aided by a drenching rain, it pleased a gracious God to preserve the edifice from destruction. "WE PRAISE THEE. WE BLESS THEE."
Through the action of fire and water the Bell was rendered unfit for further use.
The reconstructed interior, and the new Chancel were but slightly damaged.
The Church was to have been dedicated on the Thursday -- June 10, 1880-of the following week.
1880 The antique Holy Table in the Chancel was used in the
July I first Church edifice, as early as A. D. 1737. Thursday

The Book of Common Prayer which came in this box is no longer in the possession of the Parish : what became of it is not known.
Its companion, the Holy Bible, was the gift, about, A. D. 1732, of "The Society for Propagating the Gospel in Foreign Parts," and is still used in reading the Lessons in Divine Service.
On its outside are the words in gilt letters "St. Andrew's Church."
On its title page is the imprint : " London. Printed by John Baskett, Printer to the King's Most Excellent Majesty. And by the Assigns of Thomas Newcomb and Henry Hills, deceasd. 1723."
On one of its leaves is a printed cut representing the Seal of the Society with its legend " Sigillum Societatis De Promovendo Evangelio in Partibus Transmarinis." On the seal is a scroll with the words " Transiens Adiuvanos."
Beneath the seal are the words "The Gift of the Society for Propagating the Gospel in Foreign Parts." The Book of Com- mon Prayer used in the office for the Holy Communion bears on its title page the imprint "New York. By Direction of the General Convention, Printed By Hugh Gaine, At the Bible, Hanover Square, MDCCXCV."
1880 The Reverend Samuel Cutler, Rector of the Parish July 17 A. D. 1841 -- A. D. 1872 died in Boston, Mass, aged 75 Saturday, 3%% A. M. years.
1880 His funeral services took place in the Somerset Street July 20 Church, Boston : his interment in the Cemetery at Tuesday Hanover Centre.

1880 On Thursday, September 30, 1880, the enlarged and Sept. 30 renewed Church edifice was dedicated by the Rt. Rev. Benjamin Henry Paddock, D.D. Bishop of the Diocese of Massachusetts.
The repairs to the exterior of the Church edifice damaged by the fire from heaven were made after plans by Sturgis & Brig- ham of Boston who also were the architects who furnished the plans for the Chancel.
Towards the cost of the repairs the following contributions were received from persons outside of the Parish.

When the interior of the Church edifice was reconstructed the organ was moved from the East-end Gallery to the floor of the Church, south of the Chancel. The space thus made in the gallery was utilized by the erection therein of six pews.
The new Bell was placed in position Saturday, September 4, 1880. It bears this inscription "Cast by William Blake & Co. formerly H. N. Hooper & Co. Boston, Mass. A.D. 1880."

The entire expense of the Bell and of its hanging in the Belfry was borne by the Ladies Dorcas Society of the Parish. By the contribution of $50-by Mr. Alexander Williams of Bos- ton, the church edifice was insured for $2500, for three years from July 1, 1880.
1877 An elegant Alms Chest of massive oak was placed in Sept. I. the vestibule of the Church. The inscriptions on the brass plate are as follows :

The Gift of His Grand Nephew Joseph Smith Bigelow 8th Sunday after Trinity July 22nd 1877.
In red enamel there is an Anchor at rest at the top of the plate and three St. Andrew's Crosses after the date of the Rear-Ad- miral's Death. The Mountings are of brass.

1880 The New Sunday School Room in the South Gallery May 16 of the Church, was, for the first time, occupied by the Whit Sun. Sunday School.

1881 Mrs. Horatio Bigelow, presented to the Church a Brass June 12 Font Pitcher and a pair of Brass Altar Vases.
1881 Mrs. Samuel Salmond and Mrs. Horatio Bigelow, Sept. II. presented to the Church a Carved 'Ash Bishop's Chair for the Chancel and all wool white cloth for a covering for the Holy Table.
1882 An Altar Cross made of the wood of the three succes- Aug. 6. sive chancel-rails in St. Andrew's Hanover, by Eben- ezer Copeland Waterman, esq'. as a memorial of his parents, formerly communicants in this Parish, was presented when the Alms were offered.
