Mr. Allen, in his valuable Hist. of Northborough, (Worc. Mag. II. 130,) gives an interesting notice of John; and states that " according to a tradition handed down in the fami- ly," he was son of a How, of Wat., supposed to be John How, Esq., who came from Warwickshire, in Eng., and who was son of John How, of Hodinhull, and connected with the family of Lord Charles How, Earl of Lancaster, in the reign of Charles 1. Of this tradition, the author of this history has yet failed of discovering confirmation in the Records of Wat. Elder EDWARD d. at Wat. ab. 1644, and in his will names no sons. ED- WARD came over in the Truelove, in 1634, æ. 60, with Elizabetlı æ. 50 ; Jer- mie, æ. 21 ; Sarah, æ. 12 ; Ephraim, æ.
9; Isaac, æ. 7; William, æ. 6. This last Edward was prob. of Lynn.
t A descendant from Daniel, (Mrs. Sarah How, of Petersham), of ad- vanced age and approved intelligence, informs the author, that Daniel was of a different family from John ; that he was a clothier, from Devonshire, in England, and brought a brass ket- tle, long preserved. We give the tradition as we received it, adding, that the author was unable, after much endeavor, to detect in her ex- cellent memory any proof of connec- tion between the descendants of Dan- iel and John, Sen. A Daniel How, (not the same), came over in the John and Sarah, Nov. 6, 1651. (Bos- ton Records.)
