Had lived in Peabody the greater part of his life. Mr. Lake had a very brilliant war record, serving his country faithfully and well through the Civil War. At one time, in North Carolina, a bounty of $1000 was offered for his head. Mr. Lake was for a long time with the engineer corps of the army and assisted in the construction of all fortifications in North Carolina.
