The population of the town at the outbreak of hos- tilities was thirty-eight hundred and fifty-nine. Its valuation was $1,690,692, and its debt $14,500. At the end of the war it had four thousand and twenty-one inhabitants, a valuation of $1,860,763 and a debt of $34,190.
