CEMETERY COMMISSIONERS' REPORT
During 1924 seven additional funds have been given the Town for perpetual care, amounting to $800.00.
The total amount, in funds invested in Liberty Bonds, for perpetual care of certain lots, amounts to $12,550.00.
The appearance of the North and Center Cemeteries has been greatly improved by the repairing and straight- ning up of many of the old head stones which had fallen over and become broken.
Through the special appropriation made for the sur- vey of Lake View Cemetery bounds have been estab- lished and new maps secured.
The following report of the finances is respectfully submitted.

REPORT OF LIBRARY TRUSTEES
The Trustees refer to the Annual Report of the Librarian as showing the activities of the library for the past year. A comparison of these reports for the past, ten years is of interest, as it clearly visualizes the steady growth of the institution's resources and usefulness.

It here appears that the number of volumes has in- creased nearly 8000, while the annual circulation has in- creased over 10,000. The Public Library Division of the state Board of Education has noted the fact that the per capita circulation of books in Wayland is one of the high- est in the state, the average per capita circulation being 7, while that of Wayland over 12. The necessity of an in creased annual appropriation by the town is obvious, to defray the growing cost of administration. The items of repair and replacement have been small since the library building was built in 1900, but must now neces- sarily be greater. Interior renovation of paint and plastering is needed at once. As the library building and grounds cost the town nothing, undue consideration of appropriations for their upkeep would not seem neces- sary.
For several years the Trustees have occasionally permitted the use of the main building for what they have considered proper purposes other than its regular
105
routine functions. Receptions have been held of the Librarians' Association of neighboring towns, and meet- ings of friends and citizens have been inaugurated by our librarian, with speakers on literary subjects and a collation. For two years the school children of the town have been given an annual entertainment known as "Children's Day." Professional story tellers have been provided, the use of the library explained by the librar- ian, an unusual exhibition of children's books shown, and a collation served. These meeting have been held at no expense to the town, and have been considered desirable and useful in promoting the objects and inter- ests of the library. That this end has been attained, many expressions of appreciation and pleasure have amply testified.
