The work of modernization of equipment and interior reduration was undertaken. The new of the Parish did cell but the plumbing in the vestay, including removing the oll toilet, washing walls and ceding and repainting , installing new wining ( in part) and new fixtures, na sink a water heater, linoleum , in the kitchen. The linoleum and it's installation was the gift of Ther Taylor, wales acted as Seipt for all the volunter work.

Richard Johnson, + allen Kingsbury were the carpenters in charge of the rebuilding work in the sanctuary. assisted by some volunteer help and several outside technicians, new partitions were erected i give added depth and a channel installed. The plaster was repaired and painted . New lights ever installed over the channel. The peros were painted and shields installed over the radiators. The Savage Memorial Tablet was moved, with courent of the family, Of the entramw hall.

Mr Arland Didlawo & Walden, the architect, inspected the completed job on Sept. 21, the day the painting contractor finished his work. By 4:30 it was impossible I leave the field, a strong saind having blown trees over all roads. By 5 it was noticed that the steeple was swaying in the rising wind. But it seemed It be holding on despite a severe buffeting. Out 6:30, when the

huncaux reached its height with guests up 0 100 M.P. H., the steeple finally gruve way and the top 40 feet, from the bill stage up, pitched over ants the roof. It hit the ridgepole, which did not give, and then settled, point first, in the street side. Among those watching were the painter, the cerchited, and the Minister. As snow as the flying slate had fallen, they entered the building, expecting I find the point of the stuple one or thos the flow.

However , the stout oak frame, 149 years old, had been too tough and the steeple was supported on the rafters a fort above the ceiling. Co jew pieces had too louse and much one large and seven swall holes in the plaster- but the dewaage Other nurly completed work was sugligable. This was the only Medfild Church I suffer serious damage , although ull had some trouble, Telephone and electric links were down, massive trees blocked every road, howes were rendered uninhabitable , and all normal business was brought & a stand still. Fortunately, no lives were last in Medfild.

The steph , estimated I weigh 8 tonn , was pulled back out of the roof by a crew of riggers. It was a spectacular procedure und attracted a constant crowd ? curious wateles. This almost led I tragedy as, with the staples clear of the roof and being lowered at the back side of the church, a block gave way, In the severe resulting strain, the stub most crumpled and Jumped its unvilly bunden at some distance from its planned location. But for very

fast thinking by the foreman and cool work by his crew, several layers persons might have been killed. The hole in the roof was immediately repaired so that the interior of the church was not further damaged by rain . The holes in the ceiling were repaired and the entire ceiling washed and repainted.

Fortunately Mr. Wiggin' check for $ 500. was received at this Time. The AULA also sent 500. from the Hurricane Fund. But they would not have been enough same for the fact that it was possible I have an advance payment from the wheeler estate.

On October 6 a rededication service was held in the redecorated sanctuary. Most of the pews were filled and the genuinely cooperative + sympathetic feeling of the townspeople was generously manifest.

nov . 6 . a pris of silver candlesticks and a silver flower basin and a white pottery vase ever presented in the church by the group who had made and presented the puppet show the previous winter. They are used regularly on the communion table .
