The Confefsion followes.


We are senfible y' by our sin againft ye 7th Com- andment we have given juft provocation to ye great and all-seeing Lawgiver, who hates impur- ity and unchaftity in heart and practice both; and does dreadfully chide sins of y' nature in partic- ular, as in Eph: 5. 5. where its said y' no unclean perfon has any inheritance &c; we are alfo sen- fible of our having given juft offence, and caufed grief to, profefsors who have any fear of God in them, and particularly to this Chh to which one of us relates as a Lamb of ye flock. We doe accordingly now before God and his people manifeft our hearty repentance for our sin, and would flee for relief to ye blood which cleanfes,

Wm Maricks defire of baptifm was signified to ye chh on June 16. 1728. they were alfo minded that he was more then barly adult when his mo- ther was admited to full comunion; y ye chh were to be as eyes to their Paftor, so far as y' if they knew anything in his converfation yt might be a juft barr to my procedure they should signifie it. (2) y' she went out of ye county to Bofton to be married (3) y' she ran away with ye man in the night unknown to her Parents. (4) that her Parents, by their coun- tenances and exprefsions seemed greatly grieved at w' she had done. (5) y' one of them, when the sin was publickly taken notice of from Exod : 20. 12. was so overwhelmd at w' her child had done, y[u] she was not able for some time after ye pub- lick worfhip was over, to goe out of the meeting houfe; for she owned to ye Paftor she did not except against wª was delivered.


After ye chh had paft ye above mentioned vote, they were told y' they had prevented a publick procefs refpecting that Perfon, yet on suppofition of another instance of this kind, they ought to be more thoughtfull & ponderus then now they seemed to have been refpecting w' they had voted.

by me for his precipitancy and rafhnefs; he pre- tend-[ed] repentance; and yet, of late, without taking any notice of his Paftor he sets up for a Preacher to a part of my Chh and Congration; yea tho J exprefsly advifed him, as his paftor, by a note J sent him, not to prefume on doing of it. Certainly neither he nor they that unite with him in this evill way can have any ground to expect a blefsing. Yea has he not herby expofed himfelf to publick cenfure?


If we Confider


I. he has no more, if so much as barly comon education.


2. yt ye making of minifters of ye loweft of ye pp is in Scripture difallowed, as being a reproach to ye sacred office, 2 Kings 17. 32. yet he being evidently such an one, has thruft himself into ye miniftry.


3. the comifsion in Mat: 28. 19 cannot be given to pp in comon, but to some diftinguifh- ingly qualified perfons, as is there evident. ac- cordingly, for perfons, on conceit of their own fitnefs, or with ye concurrence of a few private Chriftians only, to set up for preachers, muft needs be inexcufable presumption.


4. for one of ye members of my chh to take upon him, without my leave, yea againft my declared mind, to preach to a pp of whom J have ye paftorall charge, as this man has done, is (1) exprefly crofs to that comand in Heb: 13. 17.

(3) it tends to abfolute confufion in all our inftituted chhs ; for, if he may take one part of my Flock to preach to, another may as well take another, and an- other a third; and w' then becomes of ye Paftorall office into which, ye minifters are in a publick & solemn manner brought? Yea where is any flock for them to feed, if others may act according to this mans diforderly and afpiring humour and practice !


But be it noted, y' tho he was invited, and did accept to preach to a part of my Congregation, and, as I was told, actually did it; yet on re- ceiving my Note, he since tells me he did then forbear. and whether he did it since, at another Houfe, as is said I doe not yet learn.

On Feb: 27. 1733/4. the messinges aboue men- tioned having been with Dr Bangs, inform ye Paftor y ye only reply y' they could obtain from him was; That it was none of their bufinefs.


On ye next Sabbath, his own Father was directed by ye Chh, to indeavour once and again his con- viction of ye evill of abfenting himfelf from pub- lick worfhip, as alfo, of contemning ye Authority of Chrift in ye Chh by Saying as aboue. and if he cant bring him to a Suitable Sense of his evills, then to direct his son to come with him to ye Paftor, y' further indeavours may be ufed by them both wth him.

On the same week, ye above mentioned Brother made his return to ye Paftor y' D' Bangss anfwer was y it was his pleafure not to comply.


Accordingly Dr Bangs did not attend ye Chh on ye next Sabbath as he was directed; However ye Chh concluded, on ye motion made to y™, to wait some time, for his triall whether he will yet be- think himself; before they send a publick for- mall Admonition to him. this was concluded on, on March 31. 1734.


On Apr: 28. 1734. the chh (having waited till then without any good event) voted an Admo- nition to be sent to him. accordingly the following one was sent ye same Day by Deacon Lincoln; viz:


D' Jonathan Bangs, you having abfented your self from ye publick Worfhip, in this Chh, wher- off you are a child both by birth and baptifme, or Lamb of ye Flock, as Chrift exprefses it, now for near or quite a year; you having alfo refufed to hear ye Chh, when they sent to you to know ye reafon of your so abfenting your self; and after this still exprefsing further contempt of ye au- thority of Chrift in ye Chh, by infultingly reply- ing, y' it was not your pleafure to comply with
