Somerville, January 1, 1932.
The following ordinances have been adopted since the print- ing of the Annual Reports for the year 1930 :
ORDINANCE NO. 167 An Ordinance Amending Traffic Ordinance, City of Somerville
Be it ordained by the Board of Aldermen of Somerville as fol- lows :-
Section 40. Ordinance entitled "Traffic Ordinance, City of Somer- ville," is hereby amended by adding the following to said Section 40 :-
Section 40: (a)
No person shall cause or allow a vehicle other than a vehicle propelled by hand to pass along that portion of Boston Street running from the intersection of Prospect Hill Avenue to Washington Street except only in a Southeasterly direction.
This ordinance shall take effect upon its passage.
Approved, January 14, 1931.
ORDINANCE NO. 168
An Ordinance Relative to Notices of Hearings, etc.
Be it ordained by the Board of Aldermen of the City of Somerville, as follows:
Section 1. Chapter 42 of the Revised Ordinances of 1929, an ordinance pertaining to notices of hearings, etc., is hereby amended by striking out Section 4 and inserting in place thereof the following: "In such case where it is provided by law or by ordinance that notice of such hearing shall be given by publication, such notice shall be published in the weekly newspaper having the largest circulation of such newspapers published in the city, if any, and in the daily news- paper having the largest circulation of such newspapers published in the city if any."
Section 2. This ordinance shall take effect upon its passage.

ORDINANCE NO. 169 An Ordinance Amending the Building Zone Ordinance
Be it ordained by the Board of Aldermen of the City of Somerville, as follows:
Section 1. The tract of land hereinafter described is hereby re- moved from "Residence C" district, and shall hereafter be a "Business" district., A certain tract of land comprising the area on both sides of Cutter Avenue, now zoned as "Residence C" district.

ORDINANCE NO. . 170
An Ordinance Amending "Traffic Ordinance" of the City of Somerville
Be it ordained by the Board of Aldermen of the City of Somerville, as follows:
Section 1. Section 41 of the Traffic Ordinance of the City of Som- erville is hereby amended by adding thereto the following: Clause 1. No person shall cause or allow any vehicle to remain standing in Union square between numbers 1 to 19 inclusive, in front of any of the buildings above numbered, except at an angle of forty-five degrees to the curb stone.
Official signs shall be erected and maintained in each block des- ignating the provisions of this section, and located so as to be easily visible at all times to approaching drivers. Sufficient number must be provided so that a car cannot be parked in a limited or prohibited parking place without having the legend side of the sign, clearly set- ting forth the parking regulations thereat, visible from that location.
Section 2. This ordinance shall take effect upon its passage.

Section 1. The tract of land hereinafter described is hereby re- moved from a "Residence B District," and shall hereafter be a "Busi-

ness District," A certain tract of land comprising Nos. 178-182 Pearl Street, described as follows :- Beginning at a point on said Pearl Street distant one hundred one and fifty-three hundredths (101.53) feet North- westerly from the Southwesterly corner of the Northern Artery and Pearl Street and running Southwesterly on land now or formerly of one Winning, seventy-five (75) feet; thence running Southeasterly on land now or formerly of Ricker, Emerson and Adams, one hundred three and seventy-six hundredths (103.76) feet to Aldrich Street; thence running Northerly by said Aldrich Street, thirty-three and sixty-three hundredths (33.63) feet to a point in the Westerly line of the Northern Artery; thence more Northerly by said Northern Artery forty-one and forty-nine hundredths (41.49) feet to the Southwesterly junction of Pearl Street and the Northern Artery; thence Westerly by Pearl Street one hundred one and fifty-three hundredths (101.53) feet to the point of beginning. Containing 7888 square feet.
Section 2. This ordinance shall take effect upon its passage.

ORDINANCE NO. 173
An Ordinance Amending "The Building Ordinance of 1927"
Be it ordained by the Board of Aldermen of the City of Somerville, as follows:
Section 1. The Building Ordinance of 1927 is hereby amended by adding thereto the following section:
Section 70. Nothing herein contained shall prohibit the continued use of any existing buildings or structures nor shall any provisions of the "Building Ordinance of 1927" be construed to prevent or prohibit the moving, relocating, raising or placing of any existing building on a new foundation or on a new location, PROVIDED, HOWEVER, that a wooden building or structure shall not be moved or placed within the limits of any Fire District established under the provisions of Ordin- ance 109 of the Revised Ordinances of 1929.
Section 2. This ordinance shall take effect upon its passage.

ORDINANCE NO. 174
An Ordinance Amending "The Building Ordinance of 1927"
Be it ordained by the Board of Aldermen of the City of Somerville, as follows:
Section 1. The Building Ordinance of 1927 is hereby amended by striking out Clause "D" of paragraph 4 in Section 10 of said ordinance, and substituting in place thereof the following:
"D". No tenement or apartment house of third-class construction shall exceed two and one-half stories in height in any part, nor shall it be occupied, intended, arranged or designed to be occupied as an independent apartment above the second floor, PROVIDED, HOW- EVER, that this section shall not be construed to prevent or prohibit the continued use of any existing building or structure, nor prevent

or prohibit the moving, relocating, raising or placing of any existing building on a new foundation or new location.
Section 2. This ordinance shall take effect upon its passage.

An Ordinance Amending Ordinance No. entitled "An Ordinance Relative to Travel on Public Ways"
Be it ordained by the Board of Aldermen of the City of Somerville, as follows:
Section 41. Ordinance No. entitled "An Ordinance Relative to Travel on Public Ways" is hereby amended by adding the following to section 41.
g. g. In Union square between the Northerly side of Stone avenue and the southerly side of Warren avenue.
h. h. On the northwesterly side of Langmaid avenue between Broadway and Heath street.
i. i. Vehicles may be permitted to remain standing on Somerville avenue between Union square westerly along Somerville avenue to easterly side of Hawkins street provided, however, that all such ve- hicles shall only be permitted to remain standing parallel with the curb- ing on Somerville avenue.
j. j. Vehicles may be permitted to remain standing parallel to the curbing on Bow street from Union square in a westerly direction along Bow street to the easterly side of Walnut street.
k. k. On the southeasterly side of Central street from the intersec- tion of Highland avenue to Oxford street no parking shall be permitted.
An ordinance passed by the Board of Aldermen January 8, 1931 and presented to the Mayor on January 10, 1931, and after ten days it had the force of a law, as prescribed by section 16, City Charter, as the Mayor withheld action and ordinance was not returned by him within that time.

An Ordinance Amending Certain Ordinances Pertaining to Travel on Public Ways, being Ordinances numbered 152, 158 and 175
Be it ordained by the Board of Aldermen of the City of Somerville, as follows:
Section 1. The following ordinances, known as,
No. 152 "An Ordinance Prohibiting Parking on Portion of Broad- way at Marshall street,"
No. 158 "An Ordinance Prohibiting Parking on Webster avenue for more than one-half hour,"
No. 175 "An Ordinance Amending Ordinance Relative to Travel on Public Ways,"
are hereby amended (following the last section of each ordinance) by adding to each ordinance the following new section,-

An Ordinance Amending "An Ordinance Relative to Travel on Public Ways"

Section 1. Section 40 of "An Ordinance Relative to Travel on Pub- lic Ways" of the Revised Ordinances of 1929 is hereby amended by add- ing thereto at the end of the first paragraph of said section 40, the fol- lowing: or along any portion of Fenwick street from Heath street to Jaques street except in a northeasterly direction. Sufficient number of official signs shall be erected and maintained at the exit of said Fen- wick street at Jaques street, so that at least one side will be clearly visible for a distance of at least 100 feet to automobile drivers ap- proaching said exit.
Section 2. This ordinance shall take effect upon its passage.

An Ordinance Amending Ordinance Relative to Travel on Public Ways

ORDINANCE NO. 179
An Ordinance Amending Chapter IV, of the Revised Ordinances of 1929
Be it ordained by the Board of Aldermen of the City of Somerville, as follows:
Section 1. Chapter IV of the Revised Ordinances of 1929, an or- dinance pertaining to finance, etc. is hereby amended by striking out section 4, paragraph 6, and inserting in place thereof the following :-

"The pay rolls for salaries of school teachers shall be prepared by the secretary of the school committee on the twenty-fourth day of each calender month for an amount equal to one-twelfth of the yearly sal- ary, except that on June 24 the pay roll shall include the one-twelfth due and payable for the month of July. Such pay roll, approved by the secretary, shall be sent to the city auditor, who shall if the pay rolls are correct, forthwith approve the same. The mayor shall, if satisfied of the correctness of such pay rolls, sign a warrant drawn by the city auditor for the city treasurer to pay the amounts thereof, and the city treasurer shall, on the twenty-eighth day of the calendar month, pay the same.
Section 2. This ordinance shall take effect upon its passage.
