tee take steps to confer with school officials of neigh- boring communities with reference to the advisability of possible planning for the establishment of a regional class for custodial cases.
8. That the question of re-establishing a summer school, suspended since 1933, be studied. The need for this activity is definitely manifested by the fact that three privately operated summer schools have recently been established within our community.
9. That the Professional Improvement Plan for teachers be studied from the point of view of improving the already high scholastic attainment of the teachers by making provision for all teachers to keep abreast of the latest methods and techniques.
10. That urgent request be made of the City Gov- ernment for either the speedy replacement of the pre- sently closed Pope School or the necessary repairs to make it usable.
11. That the appropriations already made for the purchase of window shades be expended before more complaints are received from the parents of the school children.
In view of the statements contained in the pages of this report, which indicate to the citizens of Somerville the con- tinuance of an adequate educational program, the Superin- tendent of Schools requests all the people of the community to join him in expressing appreciation to the members of the School Committee and all their employees for the part they played in a job well done.
