BOOK, JOB, AND FANCY

PRINTING

EXECUTED AT THE OFFICE OF THE

Salem Gazette, & Essex County Mercury,

In the best Style, and on favorable terms,

By FOOTE & HORTON, Hale's Building, 223 Essex Street.

THE SALEM GAZETTE,

Established Weekly, 1768 ; Semi-Weekly, 1796, 6

Is printed on TUESDAY and FRIDAY mornings, at $3.50 per year when paid in advance; $4.00 when not in advance. The length of time which it has been before the public, and the extensive circulation it has obtained for more than a century, render it unnecessary here to enter into a formal exposition of its character. The intention is that it shall always contain the most important foreign and domestic intelligence, political, moral, and literary; original communications upon all sub- jects connected with the public welfare; a full and correct shipping list; business advertisements; and, in short, everything that is usually found and expected in a family newspaper.

The large country circulation of "The Gazette " (including "The Mercury," in which all new advertisements of "The Gazette " are published), renders it particu- larly valuable as a medium for the publication of Probate advertisements, sales of Real Estate, and other notices of interest to the farming population. Every new advertisement, with its insertion in the weekly edition, is placed before three thous- and subscribers in Salem and the neighboring towns.

THE ESSEX COUNTY MERCURY, Or, Weekly Salem Gazette, ESTABLISHED A. D. 1832,

Is made up from the reading matter of "The Salem Gazette," and is one of the cheapest and most popular papers in New-England. The subscription price is $2.00 a year, when paid in advance. The quantity of reading afforded is much greater than is usually found in a newspaper; and, as it circulates extensively in all parts of the County of Essex, particular pains are taken to present all the local matters of the County. "The Mercury is published every Wednesday morning; the subscrip- tion price, when not paid actually in advance, is $2.50 per year. For strictly ad- vance payment we deduct 50 cents, leaving the price $2.00 per year.

DR. E. D. SPEAR,

SO MUCH CELEBRATED FOR HIS

Remarkable Cures.

Office, 713 Washington Street,

BOSTON.

SOME patients, when they first call at Dr. SPEAR's office, have expected to find a full-blooded Indian, instead of the pure New-Englander that he is. This is not to be wondered at, as the term "The Old Indian Doctor" has been applied to him for many years, and grew out of his mode of treatment, based upon the Indian mode of using roots, herbs, and barks of trees, though with all the improvements which the light of civilization and science can throw upon it. Dr. SPEAR is the first educated physician to adopt and refine crude Indian remedies so as to make them available among civilized people. His great object in the treatment of diseases, and what distinguishes his practice from others, is the assistance of Nature by Nature's own remedies,-remedies amply provided by a beneficent Providence in the herbs of the field and the trees of the forest, seeking light and knowledge from every source possible, and acting in harmony with Nature's laws. But such has been the abuse of the name "Indian Doctor," Indian Physician," &c., of its use by unprincipled, uneducated "doctors," that it is the wish of the doctor to be known hereafter as Dr. E. D. SPEAR, so much celebrated for his remarkable cures.
